5.0 out of 5 stars A great album of jazz piano;but a very short one!!!!, October 17, 2003

This review is from: Glove (Audio CD)
Sir Roland Hanna (1932-2002) belongs to the small club of piano geniuses, and each and every of his records is a real treasure. This one, build around "love",belongs to these treasures:
Sir Roland,George Mraz on bass and Motohiko Hino on drums, give us wonderful versions of well known standards: "love for sale","I love you","love walked in","there is no greater love","my one and only love" and "lover".Of course,Roland Hanna's playing is priceless,he's a genius of modern jazz piano with Flanagan and Jaki Byard;and the music here is outstanding. But this CD is really too short: a little bit more than 30 minutes long !!!! Originally recorded for the japanese Trio label, this session is a gem in the art of playing standards;a really short one,but an essential one.I must confess that I'd rather listen to 30 minutes of music by Roland Hanna than to 3 hours by Brad Meldhau or Keith Jarrett. So,this record is an essential one in Sir Roland's discography, according to myself. If you want to buy another record by this Master of piano, then do it,but don't miss this ex Mingus-ite.
