5.0 out of 5 stars Great Value light
I purchased this light at a popular Home Improvement Center for about $5 and will just touch on the points that made this light a great value for myself.

I had purchased this type of light in the past from LifeGear and they are great. I thought this was the same quality of light but was sadly mistaken. I bought 3 of these one in red, blue, and green and all 3 have the same design flaws. The black rubber ring that is supposed to provide a water seal where the colored top and clear bottom join is completely useless because...

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Value light, May 28, 2009

I purchased this light at a popular Home Improvement Center for about $5 and will just touch on the points that made this light a great value for myself.

1 - It has a lanyard. This is great because my primary intent is to hang this light on my pack, and in my shelter.

2 - The shaft is hollow. This will allow the user to store small items such as dry tinder/Vaseline soaked cotton balls in protective baggie. Or what I have done is put my fire steel in it, with cotton balls to also keep it from rattling. This may not fit your fire steel if it has a grip. I purchased multiple bare fire steels from firesteeldotcom and they are a wonderful value too. You can also fit spare batteries for the light, and maybe some AA or AAA's in there too. Also remember when you use this space it will diminish the light output in the shaft if not completely smothering it. On that note, it is possible to reverse the light so that the colored side shines through the front, and the white light shines down the shaft. This is good if you want a covert light illuminating out of the front. When I did this, there was noticeable friction when I inserted it backwards, and I needed to use my pliers carefully on the white led to extract it. I'm not going to use it this way, but if I did I would sand down whatever piece of plastic was giving it friction.

3 - It is light weight. This may not be an issue for most. But if you are a backpacker on extended trips, then you know exactly how every ounce is going to add up, burning unnecessary calories along the trail.

My only complaint is the that it has a whistle. I would have preferred to have that space as more storage.

Gear can be expensive these days and it is refreshing to see a useful product at a very affordable price. I must note that this is my backup. I did spend some cashola on my primary, but that's not to say that this won't last in the years to come just because it's $5 and plastic. Time will tell. Thanks for reading.

PS: It takes 3x AG-13 batteries in case you were wondering.

This little light has the following settings in addition to "off"

flashlight beam only (white light)
flash light and colored glow (handle glows in color to match the cap)
colored glow only (handle glows in color to match the cap)
flashing glow (handle glows in color to match the cap)

It comes with batteries, a neck lanyard and it includes a whistle.

I bought several of these as stocking stuffer thinking that it would be a good thing to keep in a car glove box. One of these lights could make you very visible to other drivers in the dark.

My little light was my constant after-dark companion during a recent power outage. I had a little pool of light around the chair where I was reading, but when I needed to get a drink of water or make a trip to the bathroom, this little light was just right for moving around a dark house. Nice to have. It doesn't produce the light of a large flashlight or lantern but for the weight and price, I love it.

5.0 out of 5 stars fun backup flashlight, May 27, 2009

I bought two of these for a recent camping trip. They made great backup flashlights when we didn't feel like lugging the mag light and lantern around. They are not super bright but they are good enough for trips to the bathroom in the dark. The shaft lights up like a glow stick and also has a strobe feature. Great fun for kids and kids-at-heart!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Gadget, December 15, 2009
This review is from: GLOWSTICK BLU FLASHLITE (PPWGLOWSTICKB) (Electronics)
My Mom recently got one of these for my brother and I for Christmas. As luck would have it, my brother happened to turn one on while it was in her bag and find them. So we got them a little early. I'm really glad I got this product! The lanyard is great to help fasten it to pretty much anything, a tree branch, a pole, etc., for when you need both hands. I also think the flashlight part is amazing! It's very bright. I also like the idea of the glow stick part. Not only does it look cool, but it could be really helpful in an emergency situation( such as being lost in the woods). I think this product is a must for any camper or hiker, as it could really help you in a bad situation. Not only that, but the battery life is said to last for 200 hours! That's a great amount of time. Also when your batteries die, you can contact lifegear and they'll even send you replacements. Lifegear has great customer service, and when my glowstick wasn't working, I sent an e-mail to them and the response was really quick and from a real person(not a form letter either). All in all, I think you will be really impressed with this product and the company.

I had purchased this type of light in the past from LifeGear and they are great. I thought this was the same quality of light but was sadly mistaken. I bought 3 of these one in red, blue, and green and all 3 have the same design flaws. The black rubber ring that is supposed to provide a water seal where the colored top and clear bottom join is completely useless because there is a slot cut into the colored upper section to insert a battery separator while it is packaged. This 1/8"x1/4" slot might as well be a garage door for water. Seeing this hole as a possible issue I even tried to cover it up with ducktape and even that was not enough to keep out the moisture. The first light was killed while it was on the table and my son spilled a bottle of water on the table. The second was killed in a jacket pocket in light rain. These were nearly the same price as the actual LifeGear lights I bought a year ago and the three of four of them I still have all work great. I even dropped one on the lake while fishing and the insides stayed dry like they should have. The only reason I bought these is because I thought they were the same, I had lost one of my previously purchased, and I wanted a couple more for a camping trip. if this is the kind of light you are wanting to get, get the real deal [...]and have lights that are worth the few extra cents.
