The start of a brilliant career for Luther Vandross!!,

I remember this album from my high school days. The dance floor filled up once the DJ played the track, "Love's Holiday". I loved that song so much, I wound up buying the LP. The album will remind you of the group, "Chic" minus the signature Nile Rodgers' guitar. But clearly the best thing about this album is the vocal power of Luther Vandross!! The songs "Searching" & "The Glow of Love" were the best songs I've ever heard up to that point in my life. This is really a great CD and the start of a brilliant solo career for Vandross.

A future superstar is responsible for this album's GLOW,

The group's first single release ("Lover's Holiday") was a certifiable hit, but it wasn't until the Luther Vandross-led "Searching" and the title cut hit the airwaves did people take notice.Vandross's melliflous vocals, mixed with the throbbing beat of the bass and the drum, made the two songs semi-legendary. The remainder of the album, while enjoyable, is routine music of the era, light enough for dancing but not memorable. On the strength of "Searching" (rendered twice for good measure) and "The Glow of Love", the album gets four stars.

Classic 80s greatness!,

If you're a fan of music from the 80s like I am, this is a must have. Change were initially dismissed by some critics as Chic soundalike wannabes when they emerged with this debut in 1980 but I loved them from the get go. It's true that they probably took inspiration from the sound (and success) of Chic but producer Jaques Fred Petrus took things a step further and as brilliant as Chic were, the sound of Change had a lot more depth and soul to it. Some of the tunes here, like "It's A Girl's Affair" and "Angel In My Pocket" - which featured a then relatively unknown singer by the name of Jocelyn Shaw; we now know her as Jocelyn Brown - are totally 80s and a bit dated but the title track, lead single and what was effectively the launch pad of Luther Vandross' superstar career, (not to mention one of my favourite sing-along-to songs of all time), is still very much playable today. Janet Jackson even sampled the song for the title track of her 2001 album All for You and introduced it to a whole new audience. Clever girl. (Incidentally, "All For You" was the last Janet Jackson album I thought was worth a penny of my hard-earned money but that's an entirely different story).
"Searching", the other song Vandross sang lead on, is also still very relevant and another of my favourites as is the opener, "A Lover's Holiday". The Parkside Remix of "Seaching" on this CD is interesting but I could've lived quite happily without it. This album to me, is classic 80s greatness. I often feel very thankful that I was born when I was and was able, as a result, to enjoy music like this when it was in its heyday. They just don't make them like this anymore.

King of Romance sings on this classic studio album,

Great Soul disco album featuring Luther Vandross and Jocelyn Shaw. Luther had his first big hit here before going solo in 1981. Although his 1978 Bionic Boogie album Hot Butterfly faired well record companies didn't take him as a serious solo artist only a session singer and jingle writer. The Glow of Love is very sensous middle tempo song with touches of soul all over. Searching is great also. Too bad they never made videos of those songs.

Wonderful debut!,

When this came out on CD I immediately bought it. I had waited many years for the CD release of this LP. At the time of its release it created quite a buzz, which not only was evident in the charts but also because the male solo-vocals featured on this LP belonged to none other than Luther Vandross. Paired together with Jocelyn Shaw (Jocelyn Brown when she was married at the time) their vocals made this album into an international smash all over the world. I still recall the day I heard "Angel In My Pocket" back in July of 1980! Anyway, it's easy to pick your favourite from this CD - all of them. Well maybe not the updated Parkside remix of "Searching", but the others sure stir up a dancefloor even to this day. On another note, after hearing Change the first time, I made it my goal to collect all the albums that followed The Glow Of Love. And I have done that too! A great reminder that good music, excellent vocals and sophisticated arrangments means only one thing - a smash!

There are millions of great disco songs but a few of them always receive radio play. There are a lot of unknown great disco songs especially the ones from this CD. This is the best of the unknown Luther Vandross with the Italo-Disco band called Change before he went solo and famous. Back in NY during the seventies, I remember hearing Searching and the Glow of Love which is from this memorable CD.

i just had the great pleasure in finding this lp for 3 bucks at a used records store a few days ago in a snowy chicago, and believe me, it's well worth the trip!! change's "the glow of love" album still gets lots of airplay on urban chi-town radio, especially on 102.7 fm (v103), with the tracks "a lover's holiday"(which was a great summer/roller rink song), and "searchin'" and the title track, which basically introduced america to the unique and immeasurable talents of a little known singer named luther vandross. if you wanna find out why people love the voice of luther so much, this, i believe, is where you wanna start.

This was among 1980's most well-received disco albums and "A Lover's Holiday" shall forever remain one of the decade's best dance hits. Luther Vandross did lead vocals on the hit title track and "Searching". A nice album but 1981's "Miracles" was much better.
