Glowing with excellence,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Glow (Audio CD)
Glow in one word is "best". Every track is so good that you will never skip one. It includes some of Reef's best including the singles Place Your Hands, Consideration, Come Back Brighter and Yer Old. Gary Stringer's brilliant voice is so catchy that it goes perfectly with the guitars and drums. Glow has a lot of variety with slow, fast and classic songs.Glow opens with the single "Place Your Hands, one of Reef's most memorable songs. As "I Would Have Left You" starts, you can recognise the demanding verses follows by a straight guitar beat that you will want to know how to play. Next is "Summer's In Bloom", with a great starting beat and strong chorus to go with the mighty verses. "Lately Stomping" has the tropical kind of feeling to it to match it's sugary rush, at only 2:44 you might think this would sound cheap,it may not be long but it holds up with a chorus that uses Gary Stringer's voice in a unique way. The next single from Glow is "Consideration", a slow but clever song using soft drums combined with strong vocals that continues until the end where it shows its strong point. The slow drone of the band singing "It's gonna be alright" is a memorable tune that Reef fans cannot forget. The pace picks up with the constant riffs of "Don't You Like It?". The verses go well with the guitar. The fast chorus go perfectly with the drums and guitar constantly to keep the song strong. The next single is "Come Back Brighter" starts with what you might think is the chorus but instead is a short verse that works well with the deep guitar and bleeping noises that continue throughout the song. "Higher Vibration" lives up to its name with a ground braeking beat that will defintely vibrate the floor higher than any other song with its constant stop and start habit. The powerful chorus will leave other bands in the dust, crying for mercy. "I'm Not Scared" opens with a simple drum loop which is closely followed by Gary's voice. The chorus is long and perfect for the rest of the beat that follows, "I'm Not Scared" is a song that you can't skip, it is so catchy that you will constantly sing it. It is given an echo effect in the chorus which gives it a boost to go along with the crowd of people that can be heard later on in the song singing the chorus which gives it a brilliant mood for the album. "Robot Riff" hence it's name, is a long 7:12 track full of faint lyrics and robotic bleeps and other noises. The lyrics do well to match the robotic sounds. The last single from the album is "Yer Old". The fast drums and various guitar beats match the vocals excellently to give it the angry feeling. A fast paced and demanding song gives "Yer Old" to be a classic. The closing track "Lullaby" infact as the name suggests, a soft slow beat with catchy drums to keep you interested. Order of songs from best to not as good Overall 10/10 Can't miss it, a brilliant Reef album.

Play it to your mother,

Buy it and play it when your mother is around. This is the real thing. The songs deliver rock and roll as it should be immediate, powerful and angry. Think Rage Against the Machine crossed with Led Zep. Not a bad song on the album. Also check out the first CD by reef (Replenish).

This London- based band had their brakethrough with Glow and I can understand that. Their first album, Replenish is also good, but this time they've really made it. Real cool blues and funky parts, just listen to "Yer Old". (Real good bass playing and excellent riffs)

A welcome improvment over Replenish,

Well, Replenish was pretty good, but this just got better, as Reef finally hit the big time with singes such as Place Your Hands & Come Back Brighter. This is a very cool album, full of songs for pretty much every mood, such as the aggressive Your Old, to the more mellow Indifference. I would have to say that Come Back Brighter is one of the most infectous records of that year, and, as for all of the unspoken album tracks, well, many of them could have been singles as well.

For those of you that like the overrated White Stripes, pass on by. For fans of real music that jams, step up! This album is just amazing and is full of so much energy and jammin riffs that you cant help but groove to it! Songs like "Summers in Bloom" with its in your face attitute and "Place Your Hands" with its killer riff leave you wanting more. Oh, youll get more! Every song on here is great! I dont understand why this band did not make it big in the U.S.? Looks like people were blinded by White Stripes?!

Reef come back brighter (thats a pun),

After their glourious first album replenish reef release yet another stunning album and the one that was also their breakthrough album. The opening track place your hand is awesome and is one of the most catchy songs ever and has a gospel soul infulence as Gary Stringer shouts and spluters down the microphone, in one of the most unique vocal performances ever. The album is full of stomping rock tunes that demand the upmost attention from start to finish: Lately stomping, don't you like it ?, summers in bloom and the blistering yer old.All songs have a refreshing retro 70's style reminisant of acdc and Zepplin and is unlike anything else you will ever hear. The graceful shimmering consideration slows down the pace and shows off the vocal talents of frontman Gary Stringer. The only let down is the ultimatly wierd robot riff and lullaby, which is like a badder version of consideration (lullaby) but the rest is pure gold and more than makes up for these tracks. I wanted to just write one sentence like "Best album ever, full stop.",but just couldn't because its so damn good and to say that just wouldn't do it justice, this doesn't really the only thing that does is witnessing these classic rock songs live.
