Heartbreaking music sung with brilliance, June 15, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Gluck - Orfeo ed Euridice / Ragin, McNair, Sieden, Gardiner (Audio CD)
I own two different recordings of this work both with countertenors in the title role. This one has a tragic edge to it that really captures the mood of the piece. Derek lee Ragin is convincing from the start with his cries for his lost Euridice. The Dance of the Furies is also a highlight of this recording. Sylvia Mcnair, whom I saw recently in a performance of Giulio Cesare has the perfect voice for music from the baroque and classical era. She is a perfectly innocent Euridice. I reccomend this recording to anyone.

the best recording of Orfeo ed Euridice, June 29, 1999

I got goose-pimple-bones every time I listen to this CD. There no better recordings of Gluck's Orfeo ed Euridice existing. Yo can not compare the voice of Derek Lee Ragin to other countertenors. He is just the best.

Recently someone helped himself to, among other things, a huge stack of CDs from our home. This CD is among our top-three list of immediate replacements.
