This book is very disappointing. I bought it in order to help myself make better choices for meals and snacks, and to also make better choices for my kids' snacks. First of all, it appears to be an advertisement for "President's Choice" line of foods, which have tons of listings in almost every food category, and I have never even heard of them. After a little web research I found that those foods are Canadian, which helps explain why I had not heard of them. This also may explain why I haven't heard of many of the brands listed in the book. And something like "Balance Bars," which are highly distributed everywhere, aren't even listed! How on earth Balance Bars aren't listed in this book boggles my mind. That's my, and many, kids' snack of choice and I have no idea if it is helping them or hurting them. Perhaps this book is just a rehash of an old version of the book? The yogurt section has 35 Yoplait yogurt listings, 10 Nestle yogurt listings, and only 3 generic listings. Is this an ad for Yoplait yogurt? Why would you need 35 Yoplait yogurt listings??? It makes one think that they just wanted to fill up some pages to make it appear they did research.
Again, overall this book is very disappointing and unusable for me. I wasted my money.

I was very excited when I ordered this book. However, I was disappointed when I read it. Almost half the book is a repeat of information in the author's other book on the GI. Next, I would estimate 50% of the foods in the book are not available in the United States. Presumably they are foods available in Australia where the author is from. It would have been nice to know this in advance. I'm not sure I would buy this again.

Again (as usual) the group of experts that put this together every year have done a superb job. Their comprehensive list of both name brand and generic items that are easily found and clearly explained make this book an excellent resource for shopping and dining while at the same time being small enough to carry in your pocket or purse. All in all - another excellent help for following a heart and diabetic healthy diet!

I am disappointed because the products listed in the book are not available in the USA in all cases. President'c Choice products specifically.

Dr. Jennie Brand Miller has been good with Glycemic Index information for a long time; she still is. This book is exactly what I have needed to keep a short rein on my Type II Diabetes. Good book, good marketing by Amazon. Many thanks

When I get ready to purchase a product, I always look to Amazon.Com first to check prices. This purchase was no different. The book was as expected, shipping was fast, and the price was good. I would recommend this product.

I started using this book's information on GI Values along with low carbs and low sugars and now I don't kn ow what to eat. If you go with the GI index this book will give you a good start on how to use a GI glucose diet for lowering blood sugar.

This is a great book, helping me understand and comply with the new lifestyle/dietary requirements of my recently-diagnosed Type II Diabetes.
My doctor didn't know about this book, and I have sent her the info to find it online. Her husband is a recently-diagnosed Type II Diabetes patient. Very helpful book.

Cannot be read on a Kindle 2,

This review is from: The New Glucose Revolution Shopper's Guide to GI Values 2009 (Kindle Edition)
The following refers to the Kindle Edition of this book.
The data tables are laid out so that the names of the foods and serving sizes are on the left page, and all other data values, such as saturated fat, fiber, and the glycemic index, are on the right page. This would work in the paper edition, where you can see the left and right pages side by side. But on the Kindle 2, there really is no concept of left and right page. So the two halves of the table are on subsequent pages. You can now no longer match the name with the data values, because they are on different pages. On top of that, the tables are presented in light gray, and in a microscopic font, that cannot be enlarged with the font size setting. This makes the Kindle edition completely unreadable on Kindle 2. The "optimized for larger screens" badge explains that it "can still be viewed on other devices". Don't believe it. (Well, strictly speaking it can be "viewed", it just cannot be read) |
