Great Ideas for Re-decorating with what you already have,
By Foodie NYC (New York, New York, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Glue Gun Decor: How to Dress Up Your Home-from Pillows and Curtains to Sofas and Lampshades (Hardcover)
I recently needed to repair a library chair that my cat has made a nasty scratch on. I was going to have the chair professionally reupholstered until I saw Marian McEvoy on The Oprah Winfrey Show. When I saw what she was doing with a glue gun and how she decorated her gorgeous home with one, it gave me an idea that I could fix my precious chair with a glue gun and some fabric. I ordered her book and was delighted to see that it was filled with projects that not only taught me how to cheaply make my chair look like new again, but also gave me inspiration to make my curtains look new, redo my old throw pillows and dress up my lampshades.
If you like to redecorate often, this is a must-have book because it's all about redoing what you already have or how to buy affordable objects and room accessories and make them look unique and expensive.

An Interesting Decorating Concept,
By
This review is from: Glue Gun Decor: How to Dress Up Your Home-from Pillows and Curtains to Sofas and Lampshades (Hardcover)
A maestro with the glue gun. Ms. McEvoy has pioneered using glued to add decorative pieces, to dress up virtually everything around her house. Sometimes her decoration has gotten a bit strange, I don't think I'd want the seashell decorated fireplace in my house. In a beach house, it might go well. Some of her other pieces show features that I like much better. Her way of adding a bit of trim to a very plain lampshade suits my likes much better.
In this regard we're just getting into a sense of style. It isn't expected that we'd like each others style. What is expected is that she would use a wide variety of items in this book to show what she is capable of doing with the glue gun. And on this she comes over very well. I also liked her comments on selecting the glue gun. The first one I bought was a super cheap one and it barely worked at all, I eventually threw it away. Following her recommendation I'm going to go look for an Aleen's Ultimate. The different tips make a lot of sense.

A book for Everyone,
By Decorator at Heart (New York) - See all my reviews

I used to think that I had to rely on professionals to do everything for my home, but, now I have found an easy and charming way to turn my house into a home that reflects me! All of my feather and button collections are going up in unique patterns. I am going to even do a "Japanese" room with pieces of kimonas I have collected on pillows and footrests. Bravo!

i found many new uses for simple materials such as leaves, shells, dried flowers, embroidery and even pebbles. the use of ribbons and braided trim was beautiful and modern looking. i have never used a glue gun before, but i just bought two. i intend to email the author -- she printed her email address in the front of the book so that readers can share project information and ask questions!

Glue Gun to the Rescue,

This review is from: Glue Gun Decor: How to Dress Up Your Home-from Pillows and Curtains to Sofas and Lampshades (Hardcover)
I have so many ideas I've wanted to try, but felt stymied by the sewing part. Now Marian McEvoy's book shows that a glue gun can work on furniture, curtains and other home projects. Glue guns are not just for crafts anymore.
There are holiday ideas too in the book. Other books on the topic include Wild with a Glue Gun and La Casa Loca: Latino Style Comes Home: 45 Funky Craft Projects for Decorating and Entertaining.

This is the most amazing, sophisticated and chic approach ever to hit "do it yourself" crafting. Marian McEvoy's simple yet inspiring ideas and instructions are sure to give our home a second life without spending a complete fortune. What an absolutely creative and postive force this book is! I intend to start with my pillows and lampshades and then take on some of my auntie's chairs that have been in my basement just waiting! I can't wait for book #2!

Many great projects to get your creative juices going. Photography was
excellant; was able to enjoy beauty of pieces but not too artsy to interfer with point of the book. I've now found a new textile art to add to my passion.

I saw the author Marion McEnvoy on an Oprah episode and thought this woman was amazingly creative with her simple glue gun tool. Most arts and crafts books have very traditional projects, so I never buy them. This one is not. The glue gun projects finish to look like something that you would find in Elle Decor. I just wish the book had more ideas because it's limited with projects; but for the price, it's good for inspiration.

Nothing but how to over-decorate curb-side finds with glued on cutouts, thingys, and other junk. I suspect most readers could come up with these ideas themselves, and probably exercise more restraint! Also provides only minimal instruction about glue gunning. It would be more worthwhile to just wing it with ideas from other decorating books (like Christopher Lowell's).

Not the best book for decorators,
This review is from: Glue Gun Decor: How to Dress Up Your Home-from Pillows and Curtains to Sofas and Lampshades (Hardcover)
The information in the book is the same information you can get for free on TLC or HGTV. Nothing new. The author shows many pictures of great looking furniture but in some of the more exotic pieces she doesn't share how she came about completing the project. I was not impressed by this book at all, especially with the knowledge that she has outside vendors cover her furniture and then she adds the trim to embelish a white cotton fabric. Well who can't do that. I recovered an entire couch in one day with numerous fabrics. I would not recommend, spend your money else where and get these tips from decorating shows for free.
