The Glumlot Letters,
By A Customer
This review is from: The Glumlot Letters (Paperback)
An excellent book that is very cleverly written. If you are like me and you came to the fellowship with no idea of;(a)the cunning, baffling, nature of alcoholism. (b)of how to name different types of emotions and feelings then this book is of enormous help.(or it was to me anyway!) It also hit home in a number of ways especially with its side comments on the behaviour of some members of the fellowship. It gave me a bit of a kick up the backside as to how I contribute to meetings and how I treat people who are new to the fellowship. Definitely a good read!

If you love to laugh you must have this book. Great reading for those with a few 24 hours. I have shared a few parts of this book with some people I sponsor, they could not stop laughing. Wonderful way to get people to open up. Superway to get a meeting going.

Excellent reading for those that have an already grasp of the Steps. Light hearted easy reading with many good things to revisit with a 180 degree twist.

This is the most clever, entertaining, and enlightening book on recovery I have ever read. I know that you will love it too. -- Frank D. - Author of The Annotated AA Handbook

Stanley M. chose well in his decision to emulate C.S. Lewis's "The Screwtape Letters" in order to provide insight to the power of the process of the 12-Steps of Alcoholics Anonymous to affect recovery from alcoholism. Stanley's intriguing, adept writing in this epistolary novel supports the wisdom of that choice with every Step. To work with Stanley was a pleasure, and I am honored he entrusted its editing to me.

The concept and title really tickled my sense of humor and curiosity. I figured an AA book in the style of the Screwtape Letters would be a lot of fun. Unfortunately the book is pretty monotonous and I gave up halfway through. Pick up "Drop The Rock" instead.

Although a little slow at the start, The Glumlot Letters really got good once it starting digging into the meat of the Twelve Steps. The style combines humor and irony, like Lewis' work, and the content provided many "Gee whiz, I never thought of it that way!" moments. Coverage of Steps Four through Seven I found especially useful. This would be a good book for sponsors and sponsees to work through.
