2.0 out of 5 stars Great Concept, Slipshod Quality June 23, 2014
Verified Purchase
As virtual pet apps go, this one is pretty dull. Sure, having a pet dragon is an allure, but the mediocre interface gets boring very quickly. There are a few "mini-games", which I use the term very loosely, that is on the whole too pointless and too limited to add any play value. Even the Unity-based graphics are rendered in a clunky manner.

Only one permission, Network Access, but there are two social media links, Facebook and Twitter, stuck permanently there on the play screen, and as I cannot see this game really appealing to anyone of an age that would have social media accounts (I dunno, do six year olds have Twitter feeds these days?), this is rather ridiculous. And at the top, a More Pets link- you may get tempted to buy their other pets simply because you got bored so quickly with this one.

VIRTUAL PET DRAGON is interesting in concept but generally a waste of money (when not a free app). It's main saving grace is the lack of adware modules, and though seriously lacking in extended "play" quality, I would still say fine for ages 5-7... but the social media links kill even that. Pass on this one, folks.

Have some real fun instead and grab some construction paper, dress your cat up like a dragon, and let her loose in the yard to terrorize the lizards.

2.0 out of 5 stars Good idea, poor execution. June 23, 2014

I downloaded this game for free and was tired of it after 5 minutes. Customization was too limited and seems to reset every time you restart the game. Not enough to do with your Dragon. Not anything to unlock or work toward. Controls feel loose and not responsive on the few games there are to play with your dragon. I wouldn't recommend this game.

2.0 out of 5 stars Boring n lame. I am uninstalling June 23, 2014

How this game earned 5 stars is a miracle. You really can not fly or control this dragon. Every adventure you choose, whether it is hunting, playing, or etc starts you on the same rocky ledge every time. You fly straight into the same wall of a castle each time. The sheep are impossible to burn with fire. But the dragon will do a headstand. Even loop de loop. When you choose to pet him, you never see him respond, only sounds. If he gets too thirsty, hungry, or unhappy closing the app and reopening fills his stats back up instantly. So there is not much of a challenge to care for him.

1.0 out of 5 stars Boring June 23, 2014

As far as the tech stuff goes you can catch some of the other fantastic reviews, but here's what I think. This is absolutely boring. I love dragons. My wife will tell you I will watch, play, talk about dragons all day long but after five minutes of playing I uninstalled this game.

The controls were sluggish at best. The graphics were blurry in spots. This isn't a good time filler for me. I just don't see the appeal of this app. You do not get to raise your dragon. The clothes are just like all the others you see. I mean really, bunny ears on a dragon?

Anyway this game really doesn't do anything but eat memory, battery life and bore you mindless. I'd suggest passing even for free.

3.0 out of 5 stars ok June 23, 2014

This is a virtual pet game with out a sense of purpose or achievements. It's what I would call a very very casual game.

If you don't want a real challenge and just have a virtual pet to play with, this game is for you.

Anyone that prefers any sense of challenge, even at an easy level, you may want to skip this one. There are some mini games, but the gameplay is very unpolished.

It feels like someone's first game that they programmed. If so, good job! If not, if I were you I'd listen to some critiquing.

1.0 out of 5 stars poor graphic quality June 23, 2014
Verified Purchase
This is what happens when you dictate your review to your tablet...sigh.
The graphics for this broke up and I had huge dark blotches on my screen. Once in awhile a dragon head would peek out of the dark. The sheep and the ground were clear. The dragon flying wasn't. My tablet can handle high graphic demands so I am assuming this was the programming. The only time I could see the dragon was in the feeding screen.

It has very simple controls and demands by the dragon but since all I could do was see him in the "stall" it wasn't very interesting. The dragon also pixaled in the stall setting around his joints.

good idea, bad execution

2.0 out of 5 stars this is my first virtual pet June 23, 2014

and I was glad to read that others also have trouble flying the dragon, because I thought it was just me. I managed to kill a few sheep (not sure how), but this doesn't feed the dragon. Furthermore, I'm unable to collect treasure. Every time I pick up a chest of gold, I get "Return to your Lair", and the "fire" button is disabled, not only for "Raid", but for "Hunt" as well, and the stats show I've collected 0 treasure. I have to close and reopen the app each time to reset it. Anybody out there know what I'm doing wrong? A short tutorial from the developer would be ever so helpful!
I really want to like my dragon, but this is too frustrating, and it does get boring quickly.
I want to thank Jalin for explaining that Return to Lair means Return to Treasure Cave. Also, hunting is pretty easy. You just park your dragon where the sheep come out and fire. Then you gotta gobble up the roasted sheep which doesn't always work.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not much to do June 23, 2014
Verified Purchase
From the pictures, I thought I would raise a dragon and then be able to fly it and use fire breath to destroy things. I thought it would have an adventure along with it, but I was wrong. There is no real story line, the graphics are not great (not awful, either), and there is nothing to "advance" to do. There are no prizes to earn, or upgrades to get. The mini-games (stressing "mini") are not a real challenge. In short, after 3 minutes, I was done.

IF you want to pass the time for a few minutes, download this as a FAOTD, but you will likely find yourself removing it from your device about ten minutes later. I would not recommend buying this app.

This game is great. You get to change the way your dragon looks, but it would be a nice to have more mini games and certain levels you have to get to change the colors. Read more
