My skin and I haven't been on speaking terms for years. Horrible, brutal, stubborn, disfiguring cystic acne, so viciously tenacious that I had to go through...yes, count 'em...not one, but TWO rounds of Accutane to rid my self of it, and I STILL get a nice cyst on my back or chest every once in a while. 3.0 out of 5 stars So-So
I got this product hoping to help with dark marks left from acne on my African American skin. I was afraid to try peels because I've heard these peels sometimes can damage ethnic skin but a dermatologist was offering this service in office so I figured it was okay. (I reccomend doing a patch test before trying any of these peels. I also reccomend using vaseline or some...

This review is from: Glycolic Acid 35% Gel Peel, 30ml (Professional) (Misc.)
I had pockmarks on top of pockmarks...forehead, cheeks, temples, chin, bridge of my nose even. I hate my skin, I really do. I've gone through 2 deep dermabrasions (through a plastic surgeon, not the micro kind), plus about 30 DEEP chemical peels. My scarring improved a lot.

But professional options get expensive, and taking weeks at a time off while my skin healed wasn't feasible. So I tried other methods to get rid of the rest of the scarring.

Over-the-counter products like Mederma didn't help. Then as I aged, I got grayish, blotchy, dull, oily-here-wrinkly-there skin to add to my scars.

Lovely.

I've used salicylic acid, makes my skin red and papery. I've used Mederma, nothing.

Sorry for the big lead in, but I wanted to give y'all a good idea of what I was already "facing" (sorry for the bad pun).

I saw this Skin Laboratories 35% Glycolic Acid peel advertised, decided it certainly couldn't hurt.

Bought it, received it very quickly, followed the easy-to-follow directions, love it. The lifeless, grayish appearance of my skin is gone. My smaller scars and pores are much diminished, after only 5 weeks of use, so much so that I can actually COUNT the number of scars I have left. (There were so many before, it was useless to count).

I will admit, I modified the instructions to fit my needs. I leave it on ten minutes at a time. Remember, I am a veteran of strong deep (EXPENSIVE) professional chemical peels, so my skin is quite tolerant to acid. I don't get a visible see-your-skin-flake-off "peel" from this product either (something a few of you have complained about), but that's so much the better! I don't have to miss work for a week at a time to let my skin heal, like with the strong chemical peels. But believe me, the skin cells ARE sloughing off and being replaced. You know how that 10 pounds just snuck up on you after the holidays, and you didn't notice? The skin rejuvenation you will get using this product is the same way: you don't notice it until it's done it's work.

I use this product once a week. After next week (my 6th), I'll wait a month before I go through the cycle again.

I'm also going to start using this product on my chest, which of course, is also scarred and weather-beaten.

Skin Laboratories, I Bow Before You. This is a superior product.

I always tend to stay away from chemical peels because of the horror stories I hear and because I have fair, oily, acne prone skin.

I purchased the 35% peel just to try it; to see if I'm missing anything. I'm sorry I didn't have the guts to try it sooner. :o)

It is absolutely fantastic. I had a couple of breakouts I could not, for the life of me, get rid of. I put this on with a cotton ball, and I did wait the full 4 minutes; it tingled, but did not burn in any way. I washed it off and thought "okay, no miracles here". My face did feel smoother but that's about it.

The next two days I noticed quite the improvement. My chin cleared up and my face was, again, smoother, and more even and most importantly, no breakouts. I did not need to even put on powder (which I did not live without).

You do have to use a moisturizer after the peel. I did the first time, but because my face is oily, I didn't use one the second time. BIG mistake! My face was red and it still tingled 20 minutes after I rinsed off the peel.
As soon as I put moisturizer on, my face felt better and the redness went away.

This peel works wonders for me. I will keep on using it. It's definitely worth the money.

Have been using Natura Bisse Glycopeel for years and decided to give this a try. Definitely not as gentle as the Natura Bisse product, but equally effective if you don't mind a little faster peel and the accompanying redness (which goes away in a day or so). And, what a value compared to Department store product prices!! Will purchase again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great product. It is your first chemical peel with training wheels, February 19, 2011

This review is from: Glycolic Acid 35% Gel Peel, 30ml (Professional) (Misc.)
I have been using this product for a month to treat hyperpigmentation from pregnancy. I think the best way to apply this product is with a fan brush, with that being said I purchased my brush from a local craft store for $3 & it worked great. This product is a gel, but not in a thick hair gel sort of way, this product has the consistency of pancake syrup. If you apply this product & find it running into your eyes or down your face you are applying way too much product, all I needed was about a nickel sized amount of this gel to cover my whole face. I use the product every 5 to 7 days, and even though they send a small bottle that is enough for many applications.

It is not advised that you exfoliate your skin prior to using this product. I wash my face with a gentle cleanser & then wait an hour before I apply the product. Prior to application I put petroleum jelly around my hair line, around & on my lips, and on the tip and corners of my nose. I read and followed the directions that came with it, I also have very pale & sensitive skin. Don't try to "get your money's worth" by leaving this product on longer, it is an acid you will burn yourself, it's only $18 don't be foolish.

Using the fan brush coat your forehead first & then your cheeks. The 1st time I used it I left it on for 2 minutes, I felt a light sting and was aware I had something on my face, on a scale from 1 to 10 with 10 being the worst pain & 1 being little to no pain, the pain was barely a 1. I rinsed my face with tap water for about 3 minutes followed by splashing my face with water in the sink that had 2 tabelspoons of baking soda in it to neutralize any traces of the chemical on my face. I paid special attention that I got it all off around my hairline & under my jaw.

With that being said for the ladies avoid applying this product near or during "that time of the month". That is when I applied this product for the 2nd time, my pain was a good 3 out of 10, a marked difference from the 1st time I applied it. No adverse reaction just an increased sensitivity to pain.

You won't see immediate results, in fact my face was never even really dry enough to bother me, my skin did look a little dull for a couple of days. What I did notice 5 days later was a thin layer of skin sloughing off after I got out of the shower & I was using a rough towel drying my face. My skin afterwards was very peachy, bright & refreshed looking. So this peel isn't life changing, it has nice results, but you have to ask yourself, do you really want to apply an acid strong enough to eat away two layers of skin that you bought off the internet in your home? Um..NO, so start off with baby steps, you may have to apply this product more times to achieve the look of a deeper peel, but you'll also avoid hurting yourself in the process.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great peel but be careful!, September 13, 2008

I bought this because I love how my skin looks after glycolic peels but am tired of spending so much money for them at the spa. The company sent the bottle immediately and included very detailed instructions on how to use it. Although my skin looks very fresh (glowing) from this peel I would urge anyone who is considering purchasing it to be careful while using it. Specifically, if it feels like it is burning, take it off! I left it on for a full 3 minutes even though two spots on my cheeks started to burn and turn red and now those two spots are totally red, blotchy and very sensitive. I should have only left the peel on for 2 minutes like the aesthetician at the spa does. Live and learn ...

I bought this to use on a surgery scar on my body with hopes of lessening the scar's appearance. I have a few scars on my face that I didn't even think of using it on, as they are small and have faded a bit. I'm just used to them.

I have applied this 6 times in two months. I left it on longer each time and I did follow up with lotion, which is necessary, no question. It burned a bit when I left it on longer, which was a contrast to the lack of feeling the first few times I used it for less than 1 minute. After all this time, it has made an enormous difference in my skin. The scars are much fainter, my skin is less oily and it is more even colored. I wasn't in bad shape before, but the change is enough that my male friends are noticing and asking what I did. It's not night and day, it is a subtle change and it has my skin looking great.

One time I had a cut from shaving and I used this. The cut burned and as the skin was broken, I should have waited for the cut to heal, but I'm not that bright. Anyway, I had some spots where I had the cut, but they disappeared in few days. If anyone else has this happen, don't freak out.

Now I like to look my best and I can't believe how well this works. My skin is clear, smooth, less oily and just looks good. I look young anyway, but this really impressed me. I am not a user of this type of product and never knew something like this even existed. We are all different and have different skin, but I have a medium complexion and my skin tends to be on the sensitive side. I haven't had more than 1 pimple since using this. I don't get a lot, but more than I had been getting.

Other reviewers have given some good tips and I will be another voice in the chorus that says what a great product and results this has given me.

5.0 out of 5 stars works great, April 16, 2008
This review is from: Glycolic Acid 35% Gel Peel, 30ml (Professional) (Misc.)
I had some mild post inflammatory hyperpigmentation for which i was using a hyquinone fade cream and this peel has helped tremedously. I have used it about 3 times and have noticed a huge difference in my skins tone. it's almost perfectly even again. I would highly recommend this product, especially considering that the price is a fraction of what a spa would charge for a single peel.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great stuff for problem skin, August 9, 2008

This review is from: Glycolic Acid 35% Gel Peel, 30ml (Professional) (Misc.)
This is good stuff if you have problem skin. I have cystic acne (big underground pimples) on my chin and this stuff really helps to dry it out and prevent it from festering.

Apply once a week for 6 weeks and then take a month off. Repeat.

I did the glycolic peel on Sunday nights and on Wednesdays I would exfoliate with a homemade exfoliator (mixture of liquid face soap like cetaphil, water, and cornmeal). Exfoliate for about 1 minute, rinse, and then apply a small amount of vitamin e oil to your face.

This combination of exfoliating and healing has really helped my skin.

Hope this helps!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Peel- Low Price, February 20, 2008
This review is from: Glycolic Acid 35% Gel Peel, 30ml (Professional) (Misc.)
This product works great for me. I have mild, sometimes moderate, acne and noticed results right away with this peel. I use it before bedtime and wake up with softer skin- any blemishes that I might have that day appear reduced in the AM. It also seems to shrink pores/blackheads and styme oil production. I have also tried the 20% salicyclic acid peel which is more specific to acne treatment, but I find the glycolic peel works better for me. My suggestion is to try both. Of note, my skin is not particulary sensitive to chemical peels, so I didn't notice the irritation that the other reviewers mentioned. It does, however, appear to fade old scars and heal current blemishes more quickly.

I was excited to try this, hoping to reduce the brown spots on my face. I am a 48 year old asian with fair skin. I've used this 6 times and so far it hasn't reduced the spots much at all. But what it has done is make my skin really smooth looking. The pores are much smaller, though not invisible but I'm not complaining. The wrinkles around my eyes are less noticeable too! My sisters commented on how it looked and I let them all try it. I was cautious the first couple times since I hadn't used a peel before. 45 seconds the first time just to see how it would feel, then the subsequent times I increased the time, but never past 2.5 minutes. It stung a bit and made me want to scratch my face but it was bearable. I plan to try this on my son who has an acne problem. If this product can help with that, I will definitely order more.
