5 STAR REVIEW:
I've been thinking and thinking about how enjoyable this book was....going on two days now. I just can't seem to start reading another book just yet. I still have that feeling you get when a book touches you in some way. It's like I'm still reading it, but I've turned the last page, ages ago, it's that good. I guess that I needed that fun, laugh out loud, funny, not to complicated, enjoyable read and didn't even know it. You saved the day Jennifer!

5 STAR REVIEW:
Fabulous Opening. Truly funny.

I really enjoyed this book. Loved Jane and Ty (who is mega-sexy!) Everyone should have a Goldie as a mother=in-law!
I'm not sure when or why Gnomes became a hot item, but they were a nice addition to the story.
Sex scenes hot. Loved them
I would recommend this book if you like your books contemporary, funny, and sexy.
I'll be looking for Jennifer Zane's next book! --Cynthia D'Alba

Share things I enjoy. Point out funnies, but just sit and burst out in full guffaws...rare. This is that kind of book. Try it. You'll have a grand time.-- Kally

5 STAR REVIEW:
I've never read anything like this before. Such a great read! I've also never laughed out loud so much from a book in my life! Each character was so realistic and each added their own touch and influence to the story. Every laugh came out of left field and was perfectly written to blend with each event of the story.

I really enjoyed Jennifer's writing style, her originality and the way she tells a story. I am looking forward to reading more from her with hopes her works will brighten my day just as this one has. --AR Von

Based on the description I just had to pick up this book when it popped up in the kindle daily deals. I skimmed some reviews to see what I was getting myself into and was wondering if it was going to be a non stop sex romp considering the protagonist works in her town's only adult store. That's not the case. This book is an excellent blending of some adventure, some romance, some drama, lots of humor and lots of great characters.

The protagonist, Jane West is a VERY likable character. A widowed single mother of two she is pretty content in her life. While her mother in law (owner of said adult store) thinks she needs some bedroom action in the worst way, Jane's content to live her life having been mostly by herself since her husband died several years prior to the story's beginning. Her life turns topsy-turvy when several things happen on one fateful day while she and her two boys are out hitting garage sales. First her boys buy two garden gnomes. Innocent enough but things aren't always as they seem. She also meets hunky fireman Ty at a firehouse pancake breakfast that same day. Just so happens that he moved into the house two doors down from hers.

Animal husbandry, meth labs, forest fires, sexual tension, animal poop and bachelorette parties. Seems like it's feast or famine for Jane West when a couple of garden gnomes turn her quiet life in the plains of Montana on their ear.

This is Jennifer Zane's first book and I'm duly impressed. It seems like she's been doing this for a while. She describes scenes with their sights and sounds in great prose, giving the novel a great sense of place. She also knows her characters well.

Uproariously funny, steamy and delightfully inventive, Jennifer Zane's GNOME ON THE RANGE is a perfect antidote to the predictability of real life that I loved from start to finish.

Jane is a terrific narrator--quick and observant with a snappy dry wit that fills each scene with humor. Her strength is admirable, especially after all she went through in the course of her marriage, and her relationships are strong and add a great depth to her as a character.

Ty has all the qualities of an alpha hero, but is smart enough to know the Jane isn't the kind of woman who appreciates being led. There was never a doubt that he was ready and willing to protect Jane and her children, but he has a heart light enough to appreciate the magic of pancake breakfasts and the fun to be had in blaring the horn of a fire engine loud enough to wake the dead. His struggles with Jane to find a kind of equilibrium in their relationship made for some of the best scenes in the book. Both are strong, stubborn and thoroughly used to being self-reliant, and the tension between them as the garden gnome mystery grew ever more perilous was tangible. Thankfully, the attraction between them is powerful, and every scene only makes that chemistry more explosive.

The mystery itself wasn't terribly complicated, but the twists and turns the story took were quite fun, and there were enough surprises to keep me flipping pages eagerly. The crimes and the villains out to silence Jane and her family were parts of the cruel reality that grounded the story, and made some of the more absurd elements involved seem that much funnier.

As a fan and collector of garden gnomes myself, I was drawn to Jennifer Zane's book purely by the title.

I'm not a huge fan of romance novels, but this one was just such a fun read I had to post a review. I won't get into the story; that has been rehashed here enough. In short: Ms. Zane's humor and style make this a book that I will gladly recommend to all my friends.
