5.0 out of 5 stars A whimsical Romp
This isn't a book that would normally make its way into my reading pile but I am glad it did. I remember growing up and watching a show called David the Gnome and this book helped my to capture a little bit of my lost youth.

It is wonderfully written and illustrated. The descriptions are so well written and so detailed that you shouldn't be surprised to find...

3.0 out of 5 stars Fun book
This book is a fun coffee table book for any lover of gnomes. I was a little disappointed because the cover on my book had a tear, however, I was in a hurry to ship it off to a friend so I didn't have time to return the book.

This isn't a book that would normally make its way into my reading pile but I am glad it did. I remember growing up and watching a show called David the Gnome and this book helped my to capture a little bit of my lost youth.

It is wonderfully written and illustrated. The descriptions are so well written and so detailed that you shouldn't be surprised to find yourself absently staring at your own garden trying to capture a glimpse of the Gnomes yourself. This is a great read and would make a wonderful present for yourself or someone you know looking to add just a little bit of magic to their lives.

5.0 out of 5 stars Still Brilliant 30 Years Later, May 18, 2007
This review is from: Gnomes: Thirtieth Anniversary Edition (Hardcover)
I was enchanted when I first pored over this as a six-year-old, and am equally enchanted today, 30 years later. The illustrations and writing are not only timeless, but ageless as well... I suspect I will be equally moved 30 years hence!

5.0 out of 5 stars Gnomes 30th Anniversary Edition, April 30, 2007
This review is from: Gnomes: Thirtieth Anniversary Edition (Hardcover)
This book is fabulous. It has an in depth background about gnomes and the illustration is amazing! I've picked it up so many times and learned something new each time. After reading it I had to bring some gnomes home to hang out around the house. I do see little things they work on around the yard he-he. We've passed the book all around to friends and family to look through and enjoy.

4.0 out of 5 stars Enter into a wise world, November 22, 2008
This review is from: Gnomes: Thirtieth Anniversary Edition (Hardcover)
This will be the third time I am buying this book. My previous two copies were "borrowed" by friends who have now been blacklisted from browsing my library.

It has been many years since I explored the world of these lovable gnomes who were very much more aware of nature than we will ever be.

In their world, harmony is key.

It almost makes me want to shrink down to their size so I can see the wonder of moonlight journeys on foxback.

Again, I buy this for my future grand-children. And when a child crosses my path... Some visions ae best enjoyed when shared.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful!, December 2, 2008

This review is from: Gnomes: Thirtieth Anniversary Edition (Hardcover)
I have a swedish friend who, when Christmas was around the corner wouldn't stop talking about this book. I purchased the book because after so many descriptions from it I was just excited about reading it, and I do not regret purchasing it! It is beautiful, the images, the book in general the story, and everything seems so real you just get carried away. I would recomend it to anyone who is thinking about it to just get it, you will not regret it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Super fun book, November 18, 2009
This review is from: Gnomes: Thirtieth Anniversary Edition (Hardcover)
I borrowed this book from a friend and found it absolutely enchanting. The pictures are wonderful, very detailed, realistic and whimsical. Also the text assumes very matter-of-factly that gnomes do indeed exist. I highly recommend it for anyone who is interested in fairy-tale creatures. The description says it is recommended for ages 9-12. I disagree. Adults will find this very entertaining.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gnomes 30th Edition, September 1, 2008
This review is from: Gnomes: Thirtieth Anniversary Edition (Hardcover)
My two now grown daughters remember this book being at their Grandmother's. My Mother passed away last Fall and we couldn't find the book. When I saw it on amazon I hoped it would not be disappointing. I ordered three so we could all have one. We are all very pleased. It brings back some good memories.

4.0 out of 5 stars Gnomes, February 8, 2008
This review is from: Gnomes: Thirtieth Anniversary Edition (Hardcover)
I loved this book as a kid and it's still beautifully illustrated. I got it for my children but they're a bit young for it. They are 5 and 3 years. The Trolls are a bit scary looking. I think it's great for 7 and up.

5.0 out of 5 stars Classic Guidebook + Nice Artwork, July 24, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Gnomes: Thirtieth Anniversary Edition (Hardcover)
Great coffeetable book ... Great memories having it around as a kid. We are not entirely the "gnome" type type of people; however, since our 10 yr old decided to be a gnome out of the blue last Halloween, I decided to get him and his younger brother these similar hardbound editions on their birthdays -- one has the traditional red cover, another blue -- just for kicks! A nice departure from all things modern, great book filled with wonderful illustrations, lots of pages related to ecology and forest stewardship, and of course all the imaginative gnome lore you could imagine. (We do keep it on the top shelf for display, out of our preschooler's reach, as there are a few pages with those bizarre other creatures, ie trolls ... and share the other 95% of it with him accordingly). Worth having around!

Well, I usually don't write this much ... looks like the gnomes have done it again!
