5.0 out of 5 stars This film will stay with me for the rest of my life.
I am a 13-year old. I read the book "Go Ask Alice" and I loved it. I rented the movie, and loved it. I am learning about drug abuse now so I wont make the same mistakes Alice made. This is definitely my favorite book, because it it so honest and realistic. I feel like Alice in some ways. I feel like I am all alone sometimes, and I get angry and frustrated and...

3.0 out of 5 stars A polished, "seventies-safe" version of the book
I have read the book and seen the movie several times [I have it on VHS]. The book was incredible! I read in 2 days; it was hard to put down. The movie was typical of many movies made in the early 70's --censorship was big then. The movie didn't address/portray all the real stuff going on in the book. The book was the closest representation of what really happened...

This is definitely my favorite book, because it it so honest and realistic. I feel like Alice in some ways. I feel like I am all alone sometimes, and I get angry and frustrated and upset over the littlest things. What can I say, I'm normal. So I give this movie a 5 because it is the only film out there that is real. It is based on an actual girl's life, and that's what I like about it so much.

The movie was typical of many movies made in the early 70's --censorship was big then. The movie didn't address/portray all the real stuff going on in the book. The book was the closest representation of what really happened in life. The movie was far from the book; since it was made for television, it had to be made "sterile " and "safe". I loved the movie because I love most 60's and 70's movies--but it needed to be closer to the book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cult Classic, December 7, 2000
I searched for this movie for several years. The diary of "Alice" takes you with Alice as she transforms from a young innocent girl who gets "triped" into a life style of addiction. Brings you back in the time of early hallucinogenic experimentation with 60's culture and music. It's like the Brady bunch on acid. Casting includes William Shatner as her nerd Dad. Andy Griffith as a priest. McKinsey Phillips as a young hooker. Go Ask Alice is my favorite Cult Classic of all time! Ranks up there with The Wall, Clockwork Orange, and Fear and Loathing of Las Vegas.

5.0 out of 5 stars A well-made story of teenage drug abuse., March 23, 1999

This is very good adaptation of the book. The acting, script, and direction are first rate. William Shatner, Andy Griffith, Mackenzie Phillips and Wendell Burton are among the cast.

1.0 out of 5 stars Go Ask WHO?, May 12, 2000
By A Customer
I first read the book four years ago, and instantly I looked upon Alice as my idol. The diary entries gave me hope. So, when I finally got to see the movie a year ago, I almost cried. I saw no connection between Alice, and this pathetic attempt of a movie. It totally violated everything that had happened to Alice and turned it into a "family" movie, made-for-tv. I don't recommend anybody waste their time watching the movie, but i do recommend they read a copy of the book. It will turn anyone's head around, and most probably you'll never forget the book. I'm 16 years old, and i know I'll never forget Alice.

2.0 out of 5 stars Really bad transfer of a 70's classic, July 20, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Go Ask Alice (DVD)
It was great to see this vintage film from my childhood. Sadly, the transfer quality is awful. The DVD looks like it was mastered from a Beta-max home video copy discovered under a rabbit hutch.

I wasn't expecting an HD experience from a made for TV film 30 years old but it was pretty darn bad.

3.0 out of 5 stars Go Ask Alice, August 31, 2008
This review is from: Go Ask Alice (DVD)
I bought this movie after i read the book in one night. I was so amazed by the book that i had to see the movie and see how other minds played out the charcters. I did enjoy watching the movie, however, i was disappointed by the acting and the way the plot was set out. It usually happens that you read a book then see that movie and there are always changes to the movie to fit all the excitement and adventure in 90 minutes. I think the directers might have taken the changes a little too far and almost changed the whole experience behind the book for me. I would recommend reading Go Ask Alice the book before seeing the movie, things will play out a lot better and make a lot more since if you read the book first.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty Good, January 9, 2003
This book was required reading when I was in high school, so I read it for the first time then. I enjoyed it so much that I bought myself a copy to keep, which I still have. I reread it recently. It's so realistic, makes you think. I never did any drugs growing up, but I knew plenty who did. The movie was alright, but the book's better. A lot was left out as far as details go for the movie. They should have put it all in the movie when it was done. It's worth watching, but the book would be my first pick.
