A Lovely Little Cookbook,
By A Customer
This review is from: Go Bananas! (Paperback)
What a nice surprise! In addition to the tasty recipes there are some amusing bits of trivia on each page that make this book very entertaining. This is a nice little gift item for any cookbook collector's shelf. Everything from Elvis' famous "P.B.& B." to the sophisticated "Ecuadorean Lamb Stew" is included in this new collection of recipes. Many of the dishes include variations of ingredients to experiment with. There are some very simple combinations that one would never think of trying like "Bacon and Banana Kabobs" with a honey-mustard marinade. I am anxious to try the "Plantain, Apple and Bacon stuffing" for Thanksgiving this year. The drink recipes are all sinfully delicious. My friends and I sipped "Banaquiris" and Coladas by the pool recently and made believe that we were vacationing somewhere tropical. The traditional breads, cakes and muffins are also included but there are updated versions that improve your Grandma's old fashioned recipes. I am always trying to sneak nutritious ingredients into my teenager's diet and there are numerous ideas in this book which should please even a picky eater like him. I enjoyed this book very much and plan to try many of the recipes.

I love bananas!,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Go Bananas! (Paperback)
I sailed from the Dominican Republic to Puerto Rico and found myself in the cute little coffee shop. There was this book "Go Bananas" as I enjoyed my coffee and banana muffin I really wanted to buy the book and try some recipes. Since I was traveling I put the book back on the shelf. Once I returned home I found it here on Amazon, a few days later it was in my kitchen. I love the history of the banana. Who knew there where so many types? The recipes are easy to make, some times low fat (using banana instead of oil) and very inventive. I particularly love the banana ginger bread recipe. If you collect cook books as I do, this one is a great addition and will bring some island influence to your home!

Go Bananas! is the bee's knees,

This well-written, informative, superb cookbook fills a niche I never knew needed filling. I like bananas and love the book. It's a gift that's enjoyed again and again--fun to read and satisfying to use. (Especially resourceful with the over-ripe bananas that go for peanuts in grocery stores.)
The drink section sounds sublime. I love a good, unique cocktail to welcome company and help set a festive mood. (Must make a Caramel-Banana Milkshake right now! Mmmm.) There's a dessert section, not surprisingly, and delicately sweet, fruit-based confections set my heart on fire. If you like or love bananas there's something for everybody (and it's good to sneak in some nutrition). Banana-Maple Ice Cream is crazy-easy and gets raves. The Banana Oatmeal cookies are delish. Perhaps the upside-down cake is next? There's a savory section, too, for appetizers, sides, and main dishes. Such creative variety! The Red Snapper with Pecan-Banana Butter beckons. I highly recommend (5 whisks) for Go Bananas! This book is a sleeper. (Just bought 4 pounds of over-ripe bananas and better get cooking!) |
