5.0 out of 5 stars I have spent 3 times this price for games that are half the fun!!
I bought this as kind of a filler gift for my 3 yr old for christmas. I didnt know if she would get it or would like it..I have to say..my husband, myself and 2 daughters play this almost every night. It is so cute and has really helped my girls learn about different species of animals and what they do..ex. walk, fly, climb, swim..and learn their numbers. Even manners...

2.0 out of 5 stars This is really boring!!
This game really bored my three year old and definitely me! I didn't think it was very educational, my daughter paid no attention to how many of each animal was on a "tile"--they're cardboard, so there was no counting. It was just a snoozer that has sat on the shelf after several times of trying to make it interesting. Save your money and get a Cariboo, etc.

It is so cute and has really helped my girls learn about different species of animals and what they do..ex. walk, fly, climb, swim..and learn their numbers. Even manners have been brushed up with this game for example..when we pick a card that someone else has on their board..we give it to that person and they have to say " thank you mom.." It is so nice to hear that from a 3 and 5 yr old who seemed ot have forgotten lately how to be nice to each other. I absolutely love this game and i even look forward to our time to play at night. it is SOOO worth 10 dollars..i would have paid more.

My 3 year old daughter really enjoys playing this game. It is fast moving and is a very simple concept. Up to four players choose a board between animals that are fliers, walkers, swimmers or climbers. (Each game board is numbered from 1 to 10 with the same number of animals under each number. And the animals are categorized so it helps with number and types of animal recognition.) The game pieces are then put into a cloth bag. Each player starting with the youngest pulls out one game piece from the bag. The player then looks at his/her game board to see if they have a match. If so, they cover that spot on their board. If not, they give it to the player who does have a match. if no one is playing with that game board they put the matching game piece in a separate pile. Then it's the next players turn. And the game repeats until someone fills up their card first. We play until everyone's game boards are full.

My 6 year old son doesn't mind playing this with his sister and even my 8 year old niece has enjoyed playing it. Even though the older ones don't mind playing it I wouldn't purchase it specifically for the older than preschool set. But it is a good game that everyone can seem to agree upon playing. The game was definitely worth the money. We have gotten our money's worth out of it for sure.

This is a good game for 4 year olds, who probably have a hard time keeping on track playing other games. It's simple and they can suceed. Anyone older would probably find it babyish.

5.0 out of 5 stars Non-frustrating game for 3 year old, September 2, 2007

I have a very active and short-attention spanned 3 year old boy. We have Hi Ho Cherry-o, but it's not very interesting for him. He has trouble waiting his turn to spin and the repetitive counting gets old for him. This game is great! It helps that he loves Diego, and he loves looking at all the different animals. This is primarily a matching game for him right now, but as he gets better with numbers perhaps he will be more interested in counting the number of animals on each card. It is really fun for him to put his hand in the bag and pull out a token (no peeking!!). It is really simple and a fun way to play with my little guy. We love this game.

My daughter loves this game. She is only 2.5 yrs old and is really good at it. She has learned a lot while playing as well. Easy to play and fun for the whole family. I highly recommend.

5.0 out of 5 stars VERY FUN & EDUCATIONAL GAME!, January 12, 2008

My son is four and he loves Diego 123. It's awesome for: counting, number recognition, color matching, and identifying and categorizing animals (as to whether they are swimmers, flyers, walkers or climbers). With four category cards and 10 different animals featured on each, there's the opportunity for your child to learn 40 different types of animals. It's fun and educational and we highly recommend it. P.S. We also purchased Dora ABC, but it doesn't come close to offering the quality or learning potential of Diego 123.

My son just turned 3 and he really likes this game. I think it's great that it goes over counting skills and taking turns. It's a lot of fun!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great 1st game, when kids are too young for others, November 9, 2008

As the mom to a 4 year old, and twin 2 year olds, I thought I'd never be able to sit down and play a game with all three kids at the same time.
This, however, was the answer! Because the kids have an action to do, pulling the cards out of the bag and handing them to each other and matching, it seemed to grab their interest. It's more concrete than, say, moving a game piece around a board. This was the first game I was able to play with all three kids at the same time. They took turns, had fun matching, and shared the pieces with each other.
As a side bonus, my twins, who have had difficulties with speech, work hard to pronounce all the different animal names, and impressed their speech therapist, in talking about the tanagers, sloths, eagles, iguanas, and more! I felt that it stretched them to say words that aren't in our everyday vocabulary.
My daughters were able to play this game at a little more than 2 years of age. They still play it, at past 3 years!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great fun, but moves a little slow, January 23, 2009

We bought this for our Diego obsessed 4 year old and have found it to be a fun and enjoyable game. When the pieces are drawn from the bag, we match the color to our board. If it's our piece, then we can match animals as well as count them. It's great for number recognition, especially for the younger set who might be confusing a few numbers. E.g. my son still has trouble with 9 and 6. We've also noticed that a few of the animals could be included in more than one group so we talk about why that animal could be a climber and a walker, for example.

This game does move a little slow, especially if you're only playing with two people. To speed things along we remove the pieces that don't match any player's card. I also wish that there was a fact sheet giving us some information about each animal. It would be fun to read facts as we pull the pieces out of the bag. Of course my son knows nearly all 40 animals featured in the game due to his obsession with Diego. But it'd still be nice to have a fact sheet.

All in all, this is not a game I roll my eyes at when the little guy asks to play it. And if he suggests Candyland, you can bet I counter with this one! Well worth the $10 we paid for this game.

We have fun with this game. I like it because it's mindless and quick and my four year old son likes the sorting and selecting. I also like that my son can play it with his kindergarten brother pretty independently since the rules are clear and it really isn't very competitive.
