So why did author Adam Mansbach's book have the success that it has enjoyed, and apparently still does from the sales ranking here? Was it because of the use of the key title word that sent normal, rational people of all ages into sidesplitting laughter when they read this gem, that's also beautifully illustrated by Ricardo Cortés?
I would like to think not. I would like to think that it was because so many of us may have felt the words in the title, yet never expressed them to our kids as we read some comforting story to our kids. Picture the times that you may have experienced thinking your child was asleep, so you gently kissed him or her and tried to quietly sneak out of the room only to hear: "More, Daddy!" or "Mommy, you didn't finish the story!"
If that sounds familiar, then you already know. And to all expecting parents, you'll have to learn to expect to hear such things, and more frequently then you can imagine. It will happen, and when it does, just think of the words of this book, and silently smile as you resume reading to your child.
For this reader, it all started with a simple email message that I received in the spring of 2011 from a very literate friend, asking me if I wanted to go to an event for a very funny book in New York City. I like these, and responded asking what was the title or theme to this book, and my friend replied that it was a kid's book for adults. I declined, thanking my friend for thinking of me, but as I said in my response: "Books for kids aren't my thing these days, but thanks for thinking of me." That was a mistake.
My friend attended, then wrote back and stated that it was a far better event than could have been imagined, and with the message was a file with a copy of the book.Read more ›

So anyone with a little kid knows they never, ever, ever, ever want to go to sleep. They will fight it tooth and nail and come with every excuse in the book to get out of bed and delay the inevitable. This book is clever and funny and says what as a parent I have wanted to say countless times - just go the F to sleep already! I got this as a gift from my husband and then bought another to give to my sister. The illustrations are adorable and really could be a real children's book.

My daughter sent me a PDF of this book and asked me if I had maybe written it because it reminded her of my bed time stories. When I read the PDF it was clear to me how she could have asked that question! I bought her a physical copy and had it shipped to her (so easy to do on Amazon). She was delighted. This book will having you rolling. Especially if you have insomnia or a child with insomnia. I had to get two copies because how could I keep this to myself. Great book for anyone that needs a laugh.

Every new mom/dad should get this book!! It's been proven that cursing can be good for the soul, a stress kicker, a happiness boost.. It's a harmless emotional release. And who better to blow off steam to, that the source of your current stress (completely unbeknownst to them of course)
I recommend ceasing the reading of this book before age 2 when the parrot stage begins. No one wants the kid that yells the F bomb in the grocery store. This book is best suited for newborn to age 1, when you realize what a wonderful mistake you made by giving up sleep forever. You get angry, you read, you calm down, you laugh, you kiss your baby, and you wait for them to go the ... to sleep, but with a smile.
You can keep it for years to come when you finally understand most of the book to calm your nerves on those rough, sleepless nights.

Our daughter had some sleep problems that had serious root causes so this book really wasn't linked to raising her. My spouse, on the other hand, has to get to bed around 9pm to get up at 5am for a 12hour hospital shift. She puts off going to bed (inna minute!), gets up a bunch after getting into bed (gotta pee, the dog wants out, turn down the tv, etc., etc.) and will snore herself awake and blame the dogs. This book is for her.

I have relatives with a challenging child - and there are times, as a parent, that you can be at your wits' end with your kids. This book helps to discharge some of the frustration felt toward a youngster that doesn't want to lay down and rest or sleep, when the adults around her really need just that!
