5.0 out of 5 stars Most Mature & Psychedelic Trower In Decades
Alrighty now, this CD is a gift from above. Trower finally gets back to form and away from the boring standard blues thing. Let's face it Trower is not your average blues guitarist, he is equally also an R&B guitarist AND probably the best psychedelic guitarist since Jimmi. On here he varies his tones to create a much more brain-bending effect than he's done since...

3.0 out of 5 stars Your money would be better spent seeing RT live
Im a Trower fanatic but this album doesnt live up to Aezra Records' press releases. Go My Way is a soulful effort which has some very tasty lead playing. There are several places where Trower's tone and vibrato give me goose bumps. Richard Watts' vocals are both very good and well matched to the Trower's style. Certainly this album is stronger than anything released...

Alrighty now, this CD is a gift from above. Trower finally gets back to form and away from the boring standard blues thing. Let's face it Trower is not your average blues guitarist, he is equally also an R&B guitarist AND probably the best psychedelic guitarist since Jimmi. On here he varies his tones to create a much more brain-bending effect than he's done since the 70's. This CD, like his great one's from the 70's has many influences. Using unusual chords, funky rhythms, beautiful psychedelic solos, and most of all - very mature and spiritual lyrics (no standard blues "lost my baby" here). The songs are mostly about spiritual longing. Robin and Richard share the vocals and both are very competant - they sound good (they aint no James Dewar but who is?) but the main thing is that they are expressive (you can here in Robin's voice that he feels every word). The songs themselves are very well crafted - the melodies really stick with you. Every Trower fan I've met at shows has loved this disc - I don't understand where some of the reviews here are coming from. Finally an album which belongs up there right next to Bridge of Sighs and For Earth Below. If you want standard blues don't buy it, if you want Classic Trower, GET IT NOW AND SUPPORT THE MASTER.

5.0 out of 5 stars Possess it and undress it TROWERHEADS!, January 14, 2003

I lost track of Robin during the 90's, but caught up with him on, GO MY WAY, and I am duly impressed...and yes Robin can sing. Robin spins out a slightly harder/faster style on songs such as RUN WITH THE WOLVES and the title track GO MY WAY, where Robin and the drummer tear it up, LITERALLY - the jam between them could go on for 40 minutes. TOO MUCH JOY also wraps up with a slightly slower beat and TAKE THIS RIVER is like a runaway train that suddenly goes into intermission...I LOVE IT-I HATE IT-I LOVE IT -- it is a major TEASE!LONG HARD GAME is a funky, bluesy tune that you would swear Stevie Ray's spirit joined in on. Slower tunes such as INTO DUST, ON YOUR OWN, IN MY DREAM are true vintage Trower ballads. Buy it now and chant...hall of fame, hall of fame, hall of fame...:)

This is the SECOND review I've written for this CD. "What happened to my first review" I wonder, and you should too, for it raises the possibility that the reviews you read are NOT completely representative of what Amazon customers had to say...

Setting that aside, you should know that I've been a devoted Trower fan for over two decades now. When I tell you that there are only one or two cuts on this latest Trower outing that I find 'ok', several that are good-to-really good, and two or three that are absolutely stellar/primo/soul-fillingly good listening, I do so as an experienced listener.

If you long for the days of vocalist Dewar and will be satisfied with nothing less, then don't bother buying the CD. But, if you like the idea of Robin's superb and haunting licks adding presence and depth to vocals that range from Dylan-esque to near grunge, BUY THIS CD!

This is one of Trower's best works; certainly one of his best in a long time. Buy it, and while you're at it get 20th Century Blues too. You won't be dissapointed.

4.0 out of 5 stars Back To The Bridge, July 18, 2000

RT's Go My Way is a much anticipated return to his 70s styled blues rock. Robin has brought back his atmospheric guitar tones provided by the swirly Univibe and Crybaby Wah pedals making this EASILY his best work in over 20 years. The songs are well written and his band sounds great with the addition of vocalist Richard Watts on 3 songs. Trower's vocals are much improved over the Someday Blues CD, and his guitar playing...well you know....great as usual. If you are a fan of Robin's music, you gotta have this CD, you won't be disappointed.

3.0 out of 5 stars Your money would be better spent seeing RT live, August 1, 2000

Certainly this album is stronger than anything released since Back it Up (with the exception of his 3 EXCELLENT live albums released in the late 90's). However, the production quality is noticeably lacklaster and the rythym playing is rather non-descript (the classic "Trower Groove" has been abandoned). Further, Trower's vocals -while improved- arent strong enough to maintain the soulful, etheral objective of many of the songs. This coupled with mediocre lyrics on several of the tracks doom the album to miss the mark. Die hard Trower fans will enjoy Go My Way- its been my most listened to album since its release date. However fans of Trower's classic albums will be dissapointed if they expect a return to the "glory days". That being said, it would be a huge mistake to miss a chance to see Trower live. I recently saw him perform locally and he is definately at the top of his game (it was the highlight of my year and best live performance ive seen in a very long time). He was very soulful and played with incredible intensity. Unfortunately Go My Way isnt an accurate representation of the high level of playing Trower still achieves every time he steps on stage.

Not quite another "For Earth Below" or "Bridge", but a welcome return to the more atmospheric songwriting I've always liked about Robin Trower. Less bluesy than his last few outings, yet not as poppy as his 80's work, this is a solid song-oriented album with stellar guitar work. Seriously, Trower is THE most underrated guitarist in rock, and I'd put him up against Stevie Ray anyday - and forget about wanna-be's like Kenny Wayne Shepard or Jonny Lang! My only (slight) complaint here would be the underwhelming production quality of the disc, and Robin's Dylan-meets-Petty vocals (I wish he'd left all the singing duties to newcomer Richard Watts, who sings on three songs). Otherwise, the King has returned in high form!

5.0 out of 5 stars I love this album, April 20, 2006

I left Robin Trower behind many years ago. The radio stations beat Bridge of Sighs and Day Of The Eagle to death, and then James Dewar was lost to us.

I remember seeing RT in Houston on his "??? ??? Mist" (can't remember what it was called) tour. I remember that even Bridge Of Sighs was grittier, and I liked it.

Fast forward a few years (OK, decades) and I picked up the Caravan to Midnight (one of my faves from the late 70s) AND Victim Of The Fury. Great songs, lots of rock. So, I decided to find out what Trower was doing now.

This album is what he is doing now. It's gritty, it growls, it oozes that Robin Trower soul. I love it.

I thought this would be an album that I would listen to a few times just for nostalgia sake. Now it is one of my favorite albums. I listen to it over and over without getting "Free Bird" sick of it. This album stands on its own and belongs in this century, not the past.

Get it, you'll love it too.

4.0 out of 5 stars Keep it comin' Robin!, January 24, 2004
This review is from: Go My Way (Audio CD)
This isn't exactly Bridge Of Sighs or anything coming from the 70s, also no James Dewar on vocals (R.I.P James, we'll miss you) but it's still Robin none-the-less. This album definatly shows Robin's incredible guitar work and he makes a great effort on the vocals. As a Trower fan, I feel lucky as heck that he keeps givin us what we want, like tours and great listenable new albums like this one. I can't say the same for other classic rock bands like Boston (who gave us the horrid Corporate America) and ELO (who cancelled their 2001 tour)

This album is great and Robins dedication to the music and his fans is above and beyond any other. Pick this album up today and rock on!

5.0 out of 5 stars TROWER Powers up a great album!, December 19, 2001
By
Rich (Massapequa, NY USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Go My Way (Audio CD)
Trower proves once again that he's one of the great Rock/Blues guitarists of all time! Too bad some critics gave him little attention feeling he was a Hendrix clone. Anyone truly familiar with Robin's work knows full well that he built upon the Hendrix style, yet with a very unique Trower signature. That several vocalists have fronted his many ablums does not distract one from instantly recognizing the distinctive Trower sound. That alone makes a key statement, for his instrument speaks directly from his soul, and that Trower Power sound permeates this outstanding recording. Richard Watts' Dylan styled vocals at first took me by surprise, but the well written songs are all sung with conviction, so the lack of originality in vocal style fades and the impact of the songs prevail. Over the many years there were several mediocre outings, but I'm glad to see Robin in top form again. He offers a superb mixture of mature rock and smooth blues to make a well balanced album that you never get tired of hearing...BRAVO!

5.0 out of 5 stars A TRIUMPH, A MAGNIFICENT NEW 'BRIDGE' TO THE PAST AND FUTURE, October 29, 2000
By
This review is from: Go My Way (Audio CD)
As a long time Trower fan, I had almost given up hope of finding Robin producing another BRIDGE OF SIGHS or FOR EARTH BELOW (or for that matter VICTIMS OF THE FURY, a personal favorite of mine that critics found beneath their consideration). A first listening to GO MY WAY left me intrigued, but not convinced. But, after repeated listenings in a variety of settings (car, work, home, use your imagination...), I've come to esteem this new masterpiece and to regard it as deserving mention with RT's absolute best. So few CDs can boast of containg no bad tunes--add GO MY WAY to that unfortunately short list. The God of Space Blues is back! Music this good gives us one more good reason for staying alive.
