4.0 out of 5 stars Awesome scooter.
"Is it heavy?"

"Yes."

"Then put it down, it's expensive."

Yes, this scooter is heavy. And yeah, it's expensive. But it's worth it. I have a gas model as well, but it's far too noisy to ride at night. I can cruise up and down the street on this at 3 AM, and not bother a soul.

The front disc brake is incredibly responsive...

The front disc brake is incredibly responsive. I've already had to perform a few "emergency stops," and the brake worked just fine. I weigh 220 lbs, and this scooter doesn't seem to be straining to move or stop me, which I like.

Another reviewer mentioned that this scooter seems like something that someone would build in their backyard. I completely disagree with that statement. This has a solid frame, folding handlebars (which allow you to carry the scooter like a suitcase), a motor that will propel you to 20 mph (18 or 19 if you're my weight), mechanical disc brake that actually WORKS, and the throttle has three indicator LEDs to let you know the status of your batteries.

This is not a thrown-together garage project. This is a finely crafted (in the USA), well-finished product. Oh, and Go-Ped's customer service is absolutely top notch. If something's wrong, they'll make it right.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not For Everyone, August 12, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Previous reviewers are correct in describing this product as a fine piece of engineering, but it isn't for everyone.

My experienced...

In my case, I bought the scooter with the intention to run errands around the neighborhood, but the short range limited what I could do. For example, I could only make one trip to the market before the battery needed recharging, and that's with the addition of only two or three bags of groceries or the equivalent of a full backpack. Once, I tried to do a couple of errands in one day and the scooter left me stranded. The motor heated up too much, the batteries lost their charge, and I had to walk several blocks home. After this experienced I tried commuting with it, but it was too heavy and clumsy to get it on and off the bus to make it practical. It does turn heads, and makes for a nice conversation piece, but now it's mostly used for recreational purposes. In essence, it has become a nice expensive toy.

Target audience...

1. College kids would love it. They could go from the dorm or the parking lot to class and back with ease.

2. Construction workers could maneuver around the site with no problems.

3. People who work in large areas, like golf courses, parks, dams, universities, buildings, etc. can find this scooter useful.

Last note...

The scooter was designed to be a useful piece of equipment. It is well made and will last a long time, but it's practical applications are limited. Do not buy it as a toy for a child. It's motor is too strong and the frame is too heavy to trust a child with it. It was design for older people. If you have the cash to spare, then get it. Riding it will make you feel like a child again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fastest longest lasting electric scooter in its class, January 28, 2009
I've had the ESR750EX for about 3 months now. It's my 4th or 5th electric scooter. The 750 goes for me about 6.5+ miles in turbo mode with a 150lb rider. What most specs don't tell you is that they are for the "ideal condition" that is no hills, even terrain, no stopping and starting. It'd probably go 9+ miles in economy. In turbo mode its going 20+ mph which I was pleasantly surprised by.

Sealed lead acid batteries (SLA) which the standard ESR750EX has and practically every other scooter are the most common out there and have been. Li-Ion batteries cost hundreds more. A Li-Ion Goped costs double $2000. SLA batteries costing $80 would cost $500 for Li-Ion. They are lighter, hold charges longer but cost more too which is why they aren't on every scooter already.

The Goped 750 is pretty light for what you're getting. An Izip 1000 I had was extremely heavy, 85lbs. Long and clumsy and extremely hard to put in the trunk of my car which I only did 2 or 3 times. It was all solid metal. The LashOut scooter at $399 is your best bet for "off roading" and was my favorite most bang for your buck. It has dual suspension in the back. You can go off curbs, up curbs, on grass without a problem long grass. Big 16" tires very durable and practical not just for off-roading or on dirt. The tire size, deck and suspension gave me a solid very safe sturdy ride and made tight corners easy. The only minor improvement I'd say was the 1/2 inch metal deck's edges could havbe been rounded off more when your legs are against it wearing shorts.

The Goped is good too but doesn't have any suspension but the Razor's, IZIPs and Schwinn's don't either. Because the 750 goes SO fast you'll notice the bumps in the pavement more at first. It is well made and durable, solid wood deck, solid metal frame, and the optional seat attachment is solid metal also but not excessively heavy. Goped is known for being a higher end scooter and is light enough and "compactable" enough to pick up without hurting your back. There is a "break-in" period which the manual states to ride it a few times in econo mode for the batteries to be able to get fully charged.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent product, excellent deal, May 25, 2009

This is one of the best products I've bought and one of the smartest purchases I've ever made. If you are considering an electric scooter, I highly recommend this model and purchasing it from Amazon.

The scooter is amazing. The accelerator is very sensitive and you will notice a difference in the turbo and economy modes. Once you step on the scooter, you'll fall in love with it. The ride is amazingly smooth and the board is very wide so you have a flawless center of balance. I have ridden this in the streets with cars and feel completely safe (I wear my helmet every single time).

I read something someone wrote about this scooter about how sturdy it is. Let me say that I completely agree with this statement. This thing is built tough! The board is solid and you'll see that you can really open it up on the road and it can take it. Little potholes or indents in the road are no problem. You can even go down a sidewalk step and the scooter will be fine.

The battery life is excellent. In turbo mode it drains down quicker and I think the more weight you carry the faster the battery will wear down. Plus, even if you run out of battery, the scooter can be used like a regular scooter just fine. In fact it works better than a regular scooter when you use your foot to push it, since the rubber wheels are much bigger than a regular scooter's.

My only problem with the scooter is its weight. It weighs a lot. Truly around 60 pounds. Now you might not think it's that much, but I was planning on commuting to my job with this where I have to walk up two flights of stairs. This is a problem, especially since it's very awkward to pick the scooter up. This company has a model called the I-Ped (find their website) which supposedly is lighter and made for commuters.

As for the purchase, Amazon is the best. When I bought it in April it was on sale for under $1,000 (the black model), so keep checking back. If you have Amazon prime, shipping is free. Also, if you don't have the Amazon Visa, it's the perfect time to get it since you get an additional $30 off. Save up any gift certificates you have and you've got yourself quite a deal.

5.0 out of 5 stars One perspective customers view, September 8, 2010

First let me say that I have not yet purchased the unit but a purchase is imminent.

I test road the ESR750EX (I will be buying the 32AH Lion variant) and it was fantastic. I am looking to commute from home to train station and then from station to work and back again. The unit is FAST and fun. It is constructed like something one would expect to see on a military base which is why I was surprised to read one individuals remark that it was built cheap and likened it to back-yard project.

I could not disagree more, this thing is a seriously engineered device, with a build made up of aircraft quality 6061 aluminum and 4130 Chromyl this is no toy and is super strong. I weigh between 203 and 207 and it was very solid under my feet. Not one rattle.

I am a firm believer that we don't all see things alike, but saying this thing is cheap is like saying there is no difference between my Porsche Turbo and a Yugo (all you Yugo owners please don't flame me LOL :)

It is worth the money.

1.0 out of 5 stars NIGHTMARE! Horrible company and defective product, February 2, 2010
Bought one 3 months ago, it has had multiple problems! Finally just wouldn't work at all. So I contacted them (hey it was within the 3 month warranty) they didn't get back to me (after much nagging) for a month. Finally did and had me ship it to them (at my cost $[...]), then said it was my fault it broke (even though it had problems from the start). Then held it for ransom basically and were going to charge me [...] bucks to fix it!! These guys may have some zealot users out there trying to convince everyone the scooter is awesome - but believe me its not and the company is horrible!

This was purchased at half off thru Amazon, great deal! Bought it for my 12 year old son and he loves it. The whole family has had their fun with it too. Arrived in perfect condition and works great. It's quiet and has good battery life.

4.0 out of 5 stars A different point of view., July 27, 2008
Bought this praised scooter not so long ago, I have mixed feelings towards this scooter.

It has the best ride of all scooters available at the moment, strong motor, good for almost anything, a good battery set gets you to a decent mileage and strong chassis to compliment all the rest. you're getting 5 stars from me on this category.

The down side of this scooter is that everything else is built extremely cheap, almost like a kid designed the thing and built it in his back yard. Nowadays we're used to seeing nothing short of the best build quality on bicycles, motorcycles and other mechanically oriented hobbies. I wouldn't have written about it but it leads to poor reliability, just like an unreliable Harley Davidson (I love Harley's but they're tough to live with).

I'm also taking one point off because of the weight of the thing, today we have Lithium Ion or Polymer batteries that weigh one third the weight of the current lead acid ones rendering this scooter much less usable.

Update 2010,

Go-Ped now has Li Ion batteries, they still cost a fortune but I have to give you one star back.

3.0 out of 5 stars They are not thinking about these products seriously, August 31, 2009
I really want an electric vehicle like this scooter, but they have no battery meter or odometer to tell you how far you have gone and what you have left. Increase the range to about 20 miles and I think I could use it without hassles.
