4.0 out of 5 stars A Great Toy Camera, January 8, 2011
By

This review is from: Go Photo Inc. - X-Treme Pix Quad Shot Camera (Electronics)
A toy camera with the useful feature of being able to take 4 images onto a single 35mm frame of film, one shot at a time. The camera uses standard 35mm film, and has a built-in viewfinder and flash, and works by shooting with 2 fixed lenses.

The photo tetraptych created by a PhotoBlaster is great for creating an instant collage. The quality is decent. For casual occasions or other outings where quality is of secondary importance and capturing the moment is premium, the PhotoBlaster is hard to beat. You don't need to focus or worry a lot. It's about having fun taking photos, and hopefully capturing some great moments in the meanwhile.

It advances like a half-frame, but has a horizontal split and two lenses/shutters. The top quarter frame is exposed, then the bottom, then a half-frame advance. The lenses are 2 element (probably about 20mm) and do a very nice job! You may be thinking that this camera is like the Lomography ActionSampler Camera (Chrome), which also takes four quarter-frame exposures on 35mm film, as well. However, the ActionSampler takes four pictures with each press of the shutter release (with a single rotating shutter). The PhotoBlaster takes a separate, distinct exposure for each press of the shutter release.

The camera is well made and offers several nice features. For example, with a 36 exposure roll of film, you'll get 144 separate exposures. As Lomo might say... this allows you to "shoot forever." The built-in flash is powered by two AA batteries. The camera also has a built in CDS meter that tells you if flash is needed. It also has a flash-ready light. A built-in sliding lens cover protects the most important part of the camera and prevents accidental exposures. The funky design is an eye catcher and always a conversation starter.

This is basically the same camera as the Nickelodeon PhotoBlaster, with a different color case. Same blister pack, same accessories. It looks like the manufacturer, GoPhoto (in Congers, NY), produced these camera in China using essentially the same tooling as the original PhotoBlaster. The model number listed on the bottom right front of the packaging materials even reads "Model N6800", just like a PhotoBlaster.
