Go Sailor,
By A Customer
This review is from: Go Sailor (Audio CD)
As far as sugary bubble-gum pop goes, few bands compare to Go Sailor, a group which features Rose of 'Tiger Trap' and 'The Softies', and Paul from 'Crimpshrine'. Clean guitar, noodley bass, and angelic vocals (and I mean that literally) make this band a perfect, compact, de-stressifier after a long day at work. This CD, "Go Sailor", is a collection of three of their seven-inches and two compilation tracks, but none the less, it plays as though it were conceived as a full album, and is recorded and produced fairly well.Fans of Heavenly, Tiger Trap, The Softies, or any of the other old school girlie-pop bands will dig this CD.

The first time I heard of Go Sailor was from a little movie called "But I'm a Cheerleader..." The song featured in the movie (which by the way is awesome) that really caught my attention was "Ray of Sunshine." From the first time I heard I thought it was one of the best pop songs I had ever heard. From there I heard "A Fine Day For Sailing" and "Together Forever In Love." I couldn't believe how good, tight, beautiful and honest these songs were. People on here complain that this is one big song. I agree to some point. They do play one certain STYLE of music, and you definately have to like that style to get it, but that doesn't mean every song is the same. I listened to the album all the way through for the first time the other day and I can't believe how sadly beautiful each song is. Nick Hornby said it best in his book "Songbook" when he said that if you're trying to write about anything other than love, you should write an essay, a powerpoint presentation or some other format than music, but love is the one thing that has to be expressed in song or poetry. It's so hard to pin down in regular language, and that's what's so simultaneously beautiful and depressing about it - and Go Sailor captures that with near-perfection.
PS- I am convinced Rose Melberg has one of the best, sweetest voices ever. Peace out.

Just Awesome! The best of an Indie-Goddess!,
By Indie Ink (SF, CA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Go Sailor (Audio CD)
After you go through this album you'll just have to play it over again, then maybe a third and fourth time. Rose Melberg, currently of The Softies, and previously of Tiger Trap, made this catchy album of love, hate, and resolution--all over poppy, fast-paced lyrics and music. If your an indie fan, or you like music in the style of the Go-Go's "Head over Heels," than this album will be your stepping stone into Rose Melberg obsession.
