The author did a wonderful job of explaining how and even showing a way to do Irish Crochet in a “faux” mode which I especially liked. After reading this book, I now know why I don’t do Irish Crochet as my life doesn’t allow for the time it takes to make this beautiful and wonderful creations.

There are plenty of motifs and six different fill-ins. The section on how to put them all together is well written and easy to follow. The whole book is done this way. Anyone who crochets can easily make Irish Crochet with this book.

The first chapter explains how the padded rings, padded cords, knots, picots and other types of stitches are crocheted. Each has a traditional way and a updated way to make them. The motifs include flowers, leaves, acorns (yep 3D acorns), lace edgings, fill-in motifs, dangles and overlays. All are expertly explained as to how to create each item.

If you want to learn Irish Crochet, this is the best book I have ever seen on the subject. You won’t be disappointed if you buy a copy.

Irish Crochet is a beautiful art form. Until recently, most of the books that detailed this lovely crocheted lace were either Edwardian and Victorian reprints or Russian magazines with stunning contemporary work. The problem was that none of these sources made it easy to learn the basic or intermediate steps to make motifs or put together even a scarf without serious struggle and writing or patterns and interpretation of charts. Victorian directions are legendary in the assumptions they make and crochet charts, while universal sometimes need some written instructions to end with a finished final project.

Enter Irish Crochet Motis. This really teaches you how to make the motifs. It will help make the Priscilla antique booklets and the Russian magazines accessible. Learning the motifs in this book will enable the crocheter to then work with more complex forms and instructions that are lacking either due to antiquity or translation.

The directions are clear and the photographs clear. Instructions are charted and written and the motifs are versions of the classic motifs that one sees in those mouthwatering garments. I bought and printed a lot of books and booklets on Irish Crochet. This one, while not the only book you will need, is definitely the key that unlocks paradise. Recommended.

I'm new to Irish Crochet and was looking for a "newer" book on it. I plan to get into the antique books later on when i actually have a idea of what i'm doing.
This book is AMAZING! as an advanced crocheter i have experience with crochet books and this one is VERY well written.
Wonderful Pictures, clear instructions, they have it sectioned into areas. Flowers, motifs, lace the joining of the flowers & motifs.
and they have easy, advanced and intermediate patterns in each area! and with and without cording. It's an excellent book for the beginner or more advanced in my opinion.
I've already made several motifs and a few pieces of lace, and i've started a project. I love this book and will be recommending it to my friends!

I like the designs featured, but I've been working every design and am finding lots of incomplete and incorrect instructions. I'm pretty experienced with regular crochet, and I'm tenacious, so I can figure it out. I'd like to see the corrections posted somewhere.

This book, besides being very inspirational, has beautiful, well written instructions. This is an excellent book for people who want to try Irish Crochet for the first time, or for those who just want to expand their Irish Crochet knowledge. One of the best book's I have purchased this year!

First off: NO Charts.
2: Run on instructions which make the steps hard to follow.
3: Errors galore - and if they are not errors, instructions are not clear for the intent.

This book is not for the meek. If you are use to following non-specific instructions, marking patterns to know where you are and adapting patterns for un-clear instructions (without charts) and only follow the traditional patterns for Irish lace (can't figure why anyone would want untraditional when that is just regular crochet on thread instead of yarn) - buy this book for a guide for your first Irish Lace Motifs - then don't be afraid to modify and trust your eye to make the necessary corrections. Irish Lace technique can be found in-between all this book's problems.

I have worked with tech editors and know this might not be the authors fault.
This book has helped me step into the world of Irish Lace - but I am NOT your typical student.
Shame on the tech editor(s).
