This board is made of solid materials, but obviously the quality control guy was off duty at the factory on the day that the item I received was made. The sticker is off center and the laquer finish has gooey drips. But more importantly, the plastic spindle clicks back and forth when you wobble on it--which is what you are intended to do. I'm a big fan of using a little bit of technology to work out. It's always the little things that keep you from the consistent exercise necessary to see results [for example: push-up handles prevent wrist irritation. GoFit and others have these].

I got this wobble board for my birthday to help improve my balance and lower core muscles for a couple of sports/activities I thought it would benefit. At first I couldn't go a full second on the pivot, but in only a few days of occasional use (it was probably more time between sessions than actual use that mattered) I became good enough to stay up 10s+. This board has a threaded pivot that can be turned to increase/decrease the pivot height, so it'll be interesting to see how much difficulty that causes.

The board is smaller than I had expected, but it's really not a big deal--appropriate size for standing on two feet. My one complaint is that there are occasional loud creaks that I assume are happening with the threads/base. This is one of those "little things" that might stop me from using it, because I'd rather not disturb the downstairs neighbors. I'll report back if I can pinpoint the cause; if it is truly the board and not my floor, stay at 4 stars. 190lbs. The uncertainty is because my floors are pine wood, which by the way gets dented when you the board. I just bought a cheap $3 marble tile from Home Depot to put underneath it. Make sure it's matte so you don't slip everywhere, and then put a pillowcase on top of it to suppress the sound of striking the ground with the rim.

It's excellent on it's own, but you get the most out of it if you refer to the DVD included in the package. Unlike the prior reviewer, we haven't had a problem with creaking. But then again, we live on the ground floor, use this on carpet, and I haven't tried extending/unscrewing the base yet. It has no problem carrying my weight (260 lbs) and I find it to be challenging, but not too much so at the easiest level. The base support in the middle can be unscrewed to allow for greater difficulty though at this point, I haven't done so and won't until I've mastered the beginning. This was originally purchased to improve my spouse's and my balance, but it can do so much more. Exercises in the DVD show how one can improve flexibility and prevent injury, particularly for runners, with this balance board. It is really solid. The board itself is wood with some anti-sliding footing on top. The base and threading is plastic, but appears to be very well made. I'm usually afraid of standing or sitting on some things as I'm concerned they'll break, but this doesn't worry me at all. I actually can't think of a bad thing to say about it. Someone might say they'd like it to be bigger, but, if you do that, it won't be as effective or totally ineffective with some of the exercises. It's what I had hoped and better due to the DVD. Cheers and Happy New Year (2010)!

The sticker is off center and the laquer finish has gooey drips. But more importantly, the plastic spindle clicks back and forth when you wobble on it--which is what you are intended to do. This is distracting and likely signifies an early demise for the board. Now I must decide whether it's worth the time and expense to return it...

3.0 out of 5 stars Good, but gets old quickly., March 19, 2010

I bought the GoFit wobble board in order to improve my balance for the ski/snowboard season. The price was good and the reviews seemed fairly positive. I received it within 3 days and was pleasantly surprised when I first took it out. The construction is VERY solid and for the price it seemed to be a well made product. I adjusted it on the bottom to an "easy setting" and began using it. At first it was somewhat interesting, it can be quite challeging to try controlling your movements in every direction. One thing that I immediately noticed was that I had a somewhat hard time fitting my (rather large) feet. My wife did not experience this problem at all. I used the Wobble Board for about a week, but then it started feelinjg more like a chore than something fun to do. After a few days of not using it at all, I decided to give it another try and after getting bored again I went to adjust the setting to see if a little difficulty would make it more interesting. When I went to adjust it, it would not budge at all. The knob was stuck. This really makes the use of the board limited. It's an interesting device and in concept it works well, but IMO it gets old pretty quickly and the quality of the knob(or whatever is called) is not up to par with the rest of the board.

3.0 out of 5 stars Go Fit wobble board, July 1, 2010

I am generally happy with this product. However, I wanted a wobble board that could be adjusted. This one does adjust but the base often goes back in, decreasing the angle as I use it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Cannot Adjust the Noise, November 4, 2010

I initially bought this product because I had experienced another GoFit Wobble Board and had a fun time testing my balance. That board was not adjustable, and it was quiet. The adjustable screw in this board is far too noisy. While I do enjoy being able to change the angle, the constant thud keeps me from enjoying this board for as long as I would like. Whereas I spent over an hour competing for balance times on the non-adjustable board, I can barely stay on this one for ten minutes before the noise causes me to stop.

If you want the added angles and can tolerate a consistent and annoying thud, then this is the board for you. Otherwise, I suggest looking for the non-adjustable GoFit or a wobble board made by some other company.

3.0 out of 5 stars Lacks durability, March 8, 2011

I love the board, but there are several problems. One is that I weigh 200lbs; but that's another story. The problem is that after about eight months of use the board is starting to fail. For one, the non-skid decking slides off and needs to be re-glued. The other is that the adjustable height piece is essentially a large plastic screw that you unscrew to extend. Because of this, as you wobble back and forth, the screw threads give way to the next thread level. This isn't sudden or dangerous; however after about 15 minutes of wobbling, the extension will go from fully extended to fully un-extended. Finally, also owing to the extension being all plastic, if you use it with the extension fully screwed into the base, over time it can become extremely difficult to get the extension unscrewed. There's nothing to grab onto other than the slight convex ball-shape of the head of the screw, which is the surface the board balances on. It takes considerable strength to finally get the "screw" started as you can only grip it by exerting strong pressure with the palm of your hand while turning counter-clockwise. I think I'll try the $18 Reebok board next. It doesn't adjust, but the adjustment mechanism has the biggest problem with the GoFit board.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good for ankle & toe strength, October 5, 2010
By
This review is from: GoFit Ultimate Core Wobble Board with Adjustable Base (Sports)
Got this for broken ankle rehab. At first, I doubted I'd ever balance at all, but after less than a week, can easily hold level for 5 secs.--of course, would like to improve still. As others have noted, the spindle makes a clicking noise and gets pushed in during use. Used the board at the easy setting a few days, then found it really hard to unscrew the spindle to adjust difficulty--needed a monkey wrench. On the other hand, this is a light, sturdy (so far) and versatile piece of equipment that doesn't mar my wood floors. The wobble board works range of motion, strength and balance in a gentle, low-impact way. My calf muscles are visibly stronger. I find the board easy to use for at least an hour a day--it's so portable that I carry it around the house and use it while waiting for the computer to download, while brushing my teeth, while waiting for food to cook, etc. Overall satisfactory, if slightly pricey.

5.0 out of 5 stars Effective, June 26, 2011
This review is from: GoFit Ultimate Core Wobble Board with Adjustable Base (Sports)
I have had this board for about three weeks, and I use it for short sessions about five times a week. I can now stay up for 45 seconds or so. I think it's really good for developing ankle strength, something the company hardly mentions. I also feel a workout deep in my very lower core area--a place that's hard to exercise with moves like planks. I use this board with one foot sometimes, which is a great strengthener. To increase difficulty, you can stand off-center with one or two feet. I have not had the creaking or other quality issues some reviewers mention. The adjustable knob is impossible to adjust with bare hands, however. When I feel it's time to try that, I'll need wide-jaw pliers or something. Finally, I also use an Original Indo Board Natural board, which is not as effective for ankle strength, but is great for balance and is quite fun to use. The two boards are a good pair. Both will hit parts of the core that are tough to get at otherwise. I'd recommend being barefoot while using these boards. Get back in touch with your feet. ( Born to Run: A Hidden Tribe, Superathletes, and the Greatest Race the World Has Never Seen (Vintage) is highly recommended for that, too.)

I purchased this board and within a couple weeks the wood started peeling off.
Would not recommend this company.
