I bought this for my girlfriend's birthday and she really enjoyed it.
It's made with great material, should last for a long time.

The pack is 3 1/2 pounds instead of my older pack's 6 1/2 pounds. The older pack has all the lashings, the top turns into a bum bag, it has a zipper for access, etc. This pack is well worth the loss of 3 pounds, in spite of its basic nature. If you have all ultralight gear, down bag in a compression sack, thermarest lite, ultralight 2 person tent, MSR stove, it all fits, and you can go for a week, no worries. You just have to dig a bit, which I don't mind, since the pack at 25 or 30 lbs. makes the hiking so much more enjoyable!

While this pack is made of wonderfully lightweight, water-resistant material that is also superbly strong and durable, the actual setup of the pack leaves something to be desired.

Specifically, there's not really anywhere to lash things to it. More traditional packs have a space on the top of the pack for a tent and space on the bottom for a sleeping pad. This pack only has room for lashing anything on the top.

Furthermore, if you DO lash something to the top, you are prevented from getting into the main body of the pack unless you remove whatever is lashed up top.

I bought this pack for my wife to use as a bug-out-bag, and while it certainly fulfills its role as a BOB, it is frustrating to use because of its design features.

I have a much older pack from Mountaineering-5 that my father used when he was my age and into hiking. It's stood the test of time very well and is also an internal-frame pack. It has a rectangular design that holds a ton of gear, and the zipper runs the perimeter of the front of the pack on 3 sides. The lashing straps are on top and on bottom, which means you can access EVERYTHING in the pack without taking your tent and sleeping pad off the pack. It's MUCH easier. Maybe I'm just spoiled from having an old school, ergonomic pack, but it seems to me that technology should get better and better with time, not worse and worse.

This pack needs to do the following:

1.) Add some lashing straps or criss-crossed elastic cording on the back of the pack to hold extra shoes, wet gear, etc.

2.) Lose the drawstring top in favor of a zipper. Top-entry packs are not convenient or quick to access. Why not use a side-entry zipper like most packs?

3.
