First up, I'm not a big fan of the GoPro mounting system as it's way too limited in its ability to rotate freely like a ball mount. It's OK for direct mounting where ever that's possible (like on the front or top of a helmet) but mount it to the side of that same helmet and the only way to twist and turn the camera to where you want it (unless it's looking straight in the direction of the mount) is to add more adapters into the equation. More adapters means more length, and more length = more vibration.

So that brings me to this mount. Even in its standard configuration you have quite a lever between the camera and the base mount and this makes for significant vibration when the there's play between the base mount (stuck to your helmet) and the clip-in section of the helmet mount.

GoPro have come up with a solution to the excess play between these two parts (the 'male' and the 'female' so to speak) and this comes in the form of a white silicone plug, or spacer. It really does work well in eliminating the vibration. However, the nature of the big radius on this helmet mount means that the silicone plug won't fit. Long story short, this mount is affected by plenty of vibration and you find yourself having to pack out the space between the two parts so that it eliminates the rattle which, if its not affecting the picture, also shows up as a rattle in your audio as the noise gets transmitted through the plastic parts and into your mic.

Great camera, just wish there was a better mounting system.

Summary: A necessary mount, parts are interchangeable with other GoPro mounts giving you more options, but be prepared to solve any vibration issues.

I see that a couple of users had an accident where the camera fell off its mount, probably due to the 3M adhesive not holding well, or the camera was used too soon after the adhesive was applied. I would suggest attaching a tether to the camera, directly to an opening in the helmet. By doing that, you protect your $300 camera in case the adhesive/mount does not hold well. To me, this makes perfect sense to avoid losing a camera.

works if you know how to use it. seen them survive pretty gnarly moto cross/bmx/mountain biking/even a fall from space [...]. make sure sticker is applied correctly and does not receive much water damage. and always tie a safety.

I hate to bring up the bad points when the idea and design concepts are so awesome. GoPro has got an amazing corner on a long awaited technology for such a wide use; a wearable self-contained High Def movie camera and mounting hardware.
The problem is that all the plastics these products are made of are an inferior plastic that breaks surprisingly easy, thus turning an awesome design into a near worthless product.
On top of that, the steel bolts and nuts are simply pushed into the cold plastic and are quite prone to just fall out, making turning the bolt with the plastic knob a good idea that just doesn't work as well as requiring a frequent new purchase when the parts end up lost in the snow.
Soooo close to being a GREAT product, but sadly unworthy of the design concept.

I bought and used this mount for 4 days of skiing. Realized after downloading that the mount rattled and rocked front to back horrible and it transferred through the entire filming process. Very annoying and pretty much ruined all video. GoPro support said I need to use a white locking tab that supposedly came original with camera. I don't recall this piece and it doesn't appear it would solve my issue from what the photo looks like. Here is the link.

All other functions worked well.

works great - feels sturdy
the screw in the middle could have been a bit longer.. as is, it is a bit hard to get it started - but overall this mount is recommended

I like all sorts of GoPro mounts. I take them apart and use them to mount other things like GPS's. My Garmin kept falling off, and I used a flat mount on my inside winshield mated to several oddball Ram mounts to a Garmin frame--three vendors products, to make one bullet proof GPS mount.

The key component was the stick on GoPro mount. These are designed to hold in any situation. The various GoPro extentions work great with the snap in clips.

Too bad Garmin doesn't have a clue about how secure a mount to a windshield.
