This product was the same as the stores, exactly what you need if you own a Gopro, going to buy another for my other Gopro.

Had the battery BacPac worked as advertised it would have been useful.

As you will discover when you read the reviews, apparently someone at Amazon thinks the Battery Bacpac and LCD Touchscreen Bacpac are the same product -- you will find reviews of both products combined here.

This BacPac does extend the life of the Hero3. However, it does NOT extend the life of the Hero3 like it did for the Hero2. I do recommend it to help with the Hero3 battery life issues. If you can buy 2 of these so they can be swapped out quickly and I also recommend the Wasabi replacement batteries for the GoPro as the are 1200mAh vs GoPro's 1050mAh.

NOTE: In the Hero2 you could switch out the battery in the BacPac. THIS IS NOT THE CASE IN THIS BACPAC. Once the BacPac is depleted you have to recharge the BacPac. I wish GoPro would have left it like it was. This forces you to either wait for it to recharge or buy 2 of them.

I've tried the BacPac with both a H3 White and an H3 Black and have found it definitely doesn't double capacity, but it adds a reasonable amount of additional time, perhaps 50 minutes of continuous recording. It increases the overall thickness of the camera to about what it was with the previous generation Hero 2 HD.

The one issue with the BacPac, and my reason for four stars instead of five, is I could never get the pass-thru charging to work; I always had to charge the BacPac first, then move the USB to the Hero to finish; same behavior on the H3 White and H3 Black.

Unfortunately, my experience with the Hero 3's themselves have been pretty poor. I have three total; two H3 Blacks and one H3 White. Two of the cameras, after about three days of regular use of several hours per day, will no longer charge their internal battery. A third no longer functions at all. I flashed the firmware to current on all three of them before they were put into use. The two that won't charge the internal will at least still run off of the BacPac so they weren't completely out of service. All in all I think I'm about done with the H3's and will be sending them all back.

I have two Hero 3 cameras, and originally purchased a previous version Hero 3 BacPac battery in Spring 2013. That BacPac battery worked fine and had, itself, the ability to buy replacement batteries which could easily be switched in the BacPac. Unfortunately, I lost one Hero 3 with the BacPac when the mount broke free. I bought a replacement Hero 3 in July 2013 and wanted another BacPac. Unfortunately, GoPro has changed manufacturers and the current BacPac is completely different from the previous version [although the price is the same]. The new BacPac does not have a replacable battery itseld so all the previous BacPac batteries are now worthless. However, that isn't the real problem. I just got through with a two week motorcycle trip in Europe and the BacPac was actually discharging both batteries [the GPro and BacPac]. I would charge the GoPro at night with the BacPac attached until the indicator showed fully charged, and it would ultimately show both were drained by the next morning once the charger was removed. After experimenting and determining I made no mistakes in the recharging, I recharged the GoPro and BacPac separately, to make sure each was fully charged. When I attached the the BacPac to the GoPro, the combination would be fully discharged in several hours without the GoPro even being turned on. When I stopped attaching the BacPac to the GoPro and just used the GoPro alone with its own battery, it performed normally. I have since thrown my one month old BacPac battery in the waste basket and been philosphic about being screwed. I have now purchased two Hero 3 backup batteries with charger for $20 [far less than the cost of the BacPac] and will change batteries manually if the need arises.

I just finsiehed running a mud run this weekend and I was hoping to use my camera.....
The GoPro worked perfecd in the past but it was running into nothing but problems with the battery bacpak attached....

To fix the issue...I had to follow the following steps.

1. Power up the GP Hero 3 BE with the battery bacpac 2 mounted.
2. Switch on WiFi (blue LED starts blinking)
3. Switch off WiFi
4. After 2 seconds the GP Hero 3 BE will restart automatically (???)
5. The battery indicator will show as if it's charging (???)
6. Switch on WiFi again (blue LED starts blinking)
7. Switch off WiFi again
8. Now the GP Hero 3 BE is locked !!!
9. To reset the internal battery has to be removed !!!

Takeing the camera out of its case is not ideal when your hands are covered in mud and stadning in water.

I wish I would have brought an extra battery and just stopped half way. The camera would not have had as many problms and I would have had the shots that I was hoping for.

I love the camera... but the software is not ready for the battery yet....

I am super relieved to have this as it's not regularly an option to be switching out for fresh batteries on any sort of consistent basis. I use this as an added accessory during pro shoots and it makes an enormous difference. At first, I thought I would be slightly disappointed by having to carry a substantial amount of added bulk, but the profile of this battery is much slimmer than I had thought it would be, and I was very impressed.

Worthwhile investment if you need added battery time with limited capacity for switching out.
