I typically mount my GoPro to a variety of devices--car, motorcycle, and paintball gun--and each time I shoot, I like not having to worry about the amount of time I can shoot. Two GoPro batteries gives you around 4 hours of recording, which coincides well with a 32GB SDHC card (shoots 4.5 hours of 720p 60fps footage). I recently used my GoPro camera, 32GB card and extra battery to film a whole day of action, and never had to shut the camera off.

If you want to shoot and not worry about time, an extra battery is a must!

I bought this battery to use as a spare since I already had the one that came with the camera. It stopped working 7 months after being purchased. I already bought another one with the new battery pack accessory, since I don't like having only one battery with any camera. I hope this one lasts longer.

Let's you shoot longer by having a 2nd battery. I ordered this as soon as I got the GoPro. I actually do a lot of extended day / weekend trips where I'm no where near electricity, so multiple batteries are a necessity. This is exactly the same as the battery that comes with the GoPro HD Hero 2.

For a little bit more money you can order the Wasabi Power Battery and Charger Kit for GoPro AHDBT-001 and GoPro HD HERO, HERO2 Cameras, which comes with 2 batteries and a wall charger. I also own that and find the battery life performance on par with the GoPro brand battery, although the wasabi battery fits slightly looser (see my review on that particular product for more details).

Going for a long hike or outing and you want to capture more of your adventure? Then an extra battery is just want you need.

The GoPro is a great product for what it is but it does have some things that could make it better. One of those is battery life. Can't argue about the life of the battery in most cases. 2+ hours of shooting a HD movie with a camera this size is amazing, yet if you set the camera for PES and want to take a picture say every 60 seconds so you can get a nice time lapse shot of an outing the battery will only last ~3hrs. -I tested this. The fault is that the camera stays fully powered between shots draining the battery.

So if your outing is going to last longer than the battery life you need a solution, this is one of them. What else can you do? I have the battery bacpac and it's also nice to have but it weighs almost as much as the whole GoPro camera itself, probably not something you want to attach to your head. Or you could run a search on the net for solutions and find that some people have been using the expansion port to hack into the camera, but this is still somewhat new and not something that I want to try.

For less than the price of a good 16G card isn't it worth having a second battery?

This is a no brainer! It's much easier to charge additional batteries at home then it ever is to take the only one that you have out to re charge it out in the middle of nowhere! At a great price, it makes plenty of sense to me to carry multiple batteries for this very reason. Then the only concern might be that you don't have enough memory, rather than too short of a battery life.

On a cold day, this battery gives about 6-8 hours of standby or 1 hour of recording. Carry a backup if you want more recording time. Alternately, carry a charger adapter so you can charge it through a wall outlet - the charge is surprisingly fast (less than 1 hour for a full charge)

GoPro accessories are abundant but this is a real GoPro genuine battery for a not-so-bad price. If you find yourself needing to record longer than 2 hours at a time then this is a no brainer. If nothing else I'd recommend getting just one as a backup for whatever reason.

I wish they held a bit more power over a longer period of time, but then again, I knew that might be the same situation from the other GoPro batteries. Batteries work like new, as I had expect. I order more then one, just so there were backups down the road.
