With wifi bacpac installed would freeze, and no buttons would work.

Gopro should be required to accept returns for all these WiFi packs and issue full retail refunds.

The reason for the 3 STARS and NOT Five is the fact that the device does not work out-of-the-box.

I bought this wifi pack when it first came out back when GoPro said their mobile app and Protune were just around the corner. Well, skip several months later and now the iOS GoPro app is finally out with Protune firmware.

There is a very long delay in the video preview feed to the iPhone/iPad and you cannot have a live feed while recording, but it's pretty awesome it's here now.

The GoPro Wi-Fi BacPac + Remote Combo Kit works fine, both with my HD Hero and HD Hero 2. However, I bought the GoPro HD Hero 2 and the Wi-Fi BacPac + Remote Combo Kit, fully expecting the availability of the promised App that facilitates all the promised features, including live streaming.

GoPro Wi-Fi BacPac + Wi-Fi Remote Combo Kit

So far that has not materialized, and there is no firm date when it will. They keep saying it's "coming soon," and the latest promise, "coming Fall 2012."

This is a deal make-or-break promise, that has been hanging fire ever since the release of the Hero 2, October 23, 2011.

So far the App is Pie in the Sky. A suggestion for GoPro would be, since your coders can't seem to produce a working App, instead of having the promise of an App that never materializes, how about putting out a Software Developer's Kit (SDK) for the GoPro HD HERO 2 and offer an, "X Prize," for the best App submission. There are a lot of very talented folks out there!

advertised features are still not yet supported. Currently works just as a remote control. Really not worth the price. I advise others to wait till gopro updates the firmware to provide all the features before buying it.

First off, a GoPro product is more of a specialty product never expected to become mainstream.
But once people see it on "Shark Week" they gotta have it.
I'd never be able to give a GoPro to my wife or mother, for that I'd buy a Canon PowerShot.

I say this because Hero is obviously designed and built by engineers for enthusiasts. These would be people that look beyond the engineering interface, and have a sense of accomplishment when it finally works for them.

The WiFi remote has that cryptic GoPro feel to it--not to mention the worse design of any connector for its power cable I've ever seen in any product to date. Basically if you loose it (or forget it, there is no way you're going to find another customized USB to GoPro Captian Hook connector.

The setup can be obscure too, or it can be somewhat easy if you use their included software CineStudio to setup the WiFi. Once that's done, its a matter of connecting the remote to the wifi network.
That seems to go perfectly fine on my Hero2 but the Hero1 has some success but doesn't seem to work 100%.

The good news is they've released their "App" for the wifi adapter. When I first used the App with this wifi adapter I said "This is what they really needed." It is a regular app, doesn't look like anything a GoPro Engineer would design--it is simple and easy-to-use so I'm guessing they farmed out the design.

The App saves GoPro as they enter mainstream, IMHO. If I were them, I'd give away their remote (after changing the power adapter to regular micro USB) and advocate using the smart phone app. Of course when using the App you have to be connected to the Wi-Fi Adapter's network, not your own.

I purchased this last week from GoPro's online store to use with my HERO 2 camera. Prior to getting this combo, my camera was mostly behaving correctly with very few issues. After upgrading firmware and spending time setting up the WiFi BacPac+Remote, my camera freezes all the time now and I need to remove the battery to fix it. I also had a few other big problems:

1) The remote will not work unless it's plugged into my iMac. It shows a full battery, but once I unplug it, it goes off immediately.
2) Setup is a HUGE pain. I had to do the remote firmware upgrade about 4 times before it finally completed "successfully". Overall, I spent about 3 hours trying to get it setup and working... and I'm a computer guy! I'm generally good at this stuff... but this software is SO BUGGY!

It doesn't take much research to see that GoPro is putting out a lot of broken/buggy products these days. Just check out the HERO 3 reviews on here. My advice is to stay away until the issues get resolved.

I'll be returning this BacPac+Remote tonight.

I understood going in that this has only one function with the original HERO- as a remote only- so my expectations were already low. I am really disappointed in this product. I spent hours downloading the firmware and installing it on the camera (not an easy task). The instructions are scattered everywhere around the web (thanks for Google). They should all be in the manual (from A-Z)that came with the camera. I finally got the firmware installed and tried the remote. It turns the camera on and records but won't allow me to stop recording or turn it off. I got this thing for Christmas, so when I looked at my wife's receipt, it was already over 30 days and non-returnable. I just can't wait to talk for several more hours to someone on the other side of the world who barely speaks English to try to help fix this product.
