1.0 out of 5 stars Pass On This One and All GoVideo DVP Models!, August 20, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: GoVideo DVP1100 Progressive-Scan DVD Player (Electronics)
I got GoVideo's DVP1100 in March 2003 and had some trouble necessitating several calls to customer service: when it didn't play after inserting a DVD and when the door got stuck. The advice they gave me solved those problems at the time. However, we had used it only 4 times when it went kaput altogether. In July, the door became permanently stuck in the closed position (trapping a rental DVD inside). GoVideo then advised me to bring the unit to Radioshack for repair. After attempting to repair the DVD player, Radioshack informed me that the part needed for repair was no longer manufactured by GoVideo. I couldn't believe this! After buying it less than 6 months ago, repairing my DVD player is impossible?! GoVideo confirmed this, and they also told me that the same was true of all their DVP models. I told them that this was ridiculous! DO NOT buy any of the DVP GoVideo models! You'll never be able to get them repaired. The woman in the GoVideo Parts Department didn't even have the courtesy to apologize for the situation in which I found myself. The Radioshack employees, however, were very helpful, and I wasn't even charged for their services (which included releasing the imprisoned DVD so that I could return it to Blockbuster.) I will never buy any GoVideo product again. Not only would I not be able to count on quality, but I would have to fear that my defective product would be obsolete in 6 months because it would be irreparable!
