I got this lamp for power outages and camping. As usual it arrived faster than predicted and well packaged.

The lamp is nice and bright. I charged it up and turned it on for it's maiden voyage. After 2 hours we went out to dinner and it was
shining just as bright as the minute I first turned it on. Another 2-3 hours later we came home and it was still going strong. So I know I can get at least 5 hours of light out of it when it's fully charged.

I like the fact that I can charge it several different ways. Plug it in with the included power adapter or pull out the crank and go to town charging up the battery. You can also plug it into a Goal zero solar panel and let the sun charge it up for you. I'm still debating on which Goal zero solar charging kit I'm going to get but it's nice that this lamp has the option of powering up via solar power.

My one kid plugged his iPad into the lamp and it powered it with no problem. Using it for the iPad will drain the battery a lot faster but at least it's an option.

The lamp also has a mode where the red trim ring will flash red lights in a circular pattern. Guess its for a warning light during roadside breakdowns. The cat loved it as he ran in circles chasing the lights before he fell down from getting dizzy.

I like the build quality and have several other Goal zero products. It's nice for power outages and a must for your emergency preparedness kit.

I've used this Lantern for a couple of months now and have decided it's useful and convenient for camping and emergency lighting. The light includes a built in rechargable battery that you can charge via the included AC adapter, via the included 12v cig adapter or use the hand crank in an emergency. Every minute of cranking will run the lights for 10 minutes. The crank arm folds out at the top and nicely snaps back into place for storage. There's also a hanging hook that folds out of the handle. There's a USB port where you can use the internal battery to charge your other devices. The USB port is rated at 1.0Ah. To preserve battery life there's a switch that enables/disables the USB port. Turning it off keeps the batteries saved for when you actually need them.

The battery included is pretty small (2.2Ah at 3.7v), so don't expect it to power much if you want to use it as a backup power source. The box calls it a "USB power HUB" but that's a bit of an overstatement given the size of the battery. It's fine to run the light for a night, but that's about it. If you have the Nomad 7 solar panels, they can be used to charge the lantern by attaching the 12v cig adapter to the panel output, then attaching the 12v cig adapter that comes with the Lantern and connecting them. When the lantern is charging (from any source) there's a small red LED indicator inside the lantern at the base of the light assembly.

On the bonus side, there's a handy compartment at the bottom of the lamp which opens up to provide access to the internal area. It's rather roomy and could be used to store items such as spare batteries. Store anything in this space carefully as the internal circuit board is exposed inside the lantern.

I spent a few days looking for a new emergency light and after much consideration I decided to go with this one and I am very pleased with my choice. Initially I had wanted to purchase a Coleman rechargeable lantern but the reviews were not very favorable and lacked some critical functions that I think are necessary in this day and age.
I never heard of Goal Zero but the fact that I could recharge either by plugging it in or manually cranking a handle at the top of the lantern totally sold me. After all in the event of a blackout what good is a rechargeable flashlight when the batteries give out and it can't be recharged?
Another plus is that it has a USB connection that recharges my iPhone 4S. Other reviewers have stated that it's a 1.0 USB and that it won't fully recharge a cell phone but as long as really works and it does, I don't really mind. In an emergency I'll take whatever I can get and be very grateful.
I'm also very pleased with the lanterns LED lights. As soon as I got it home I turned off all the light in the house and turned it on. The lantern emits a nice bright light and I could easily see all around.
Finally, I think it's a well designed and good looking product. It shipped quickly and came in a sealed box. I'm very happy I purchased it.

Nice lantern to ad to my Goal Yeti 1250 Solar Generator and boulder 30 solar panels. Have had no issues concerning Goal Zero products.

The lantern itself works fine. The only issue is that after about six months of use, the black plastic around it became very sticky. Imagine that you are touching the glued side of duct tape. The red plastic of the on-off buttom also became very brittle and started to disintegrate. In their defense, I contacted Goal Zero , explained my situation and they replaced it right away, with a newer model lantern. It also works great and the plastic on it, is in good condition after about a year of use.
