Wonderfully comprehensive,
By Emil Dickens (Somerset, KY United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Goatkeeper's Veterinary Book (Hardcover)
This book is a must for any goatkeeper. It is an invaluable commodity on the farm. I have turned to its pages countless times, both as a refresher and during emergenices. The information covers everyday concerns as well as more extensive descriptions of disease and preventative medicine. I had previously found it difficult to find a really good reference book on goats, but once I found this book, I need not look any more!

Excellent reference. MANY photos, diagrams and straight-forward descriptions of common goat diseases and treatments. Written and updated by a hands-on vet in the UK. We are loosing large Animal vets to more lucrative cat & dog practices. Practical references like this can be desperately needed. Easily worth its price the first time you have to sort out twins.
Also useful, David C. Henderson's Veterinary Book for Sheep Farmers.

If you are going to order this book make sure to get the most recent copy, mine was from 1987 . I do recommend this book for goat owners since it does have useful information on goat care as well as pictures of illnesses and diagrams and plenty of detailed information.

Was a little disappointed in the book. Not that much help for a home goat owner.
Too much money for what it gives. If you want more home help instead of vet info, then don't buy this one.

This book is way too old to be much use. I did get one piece of information that's useful; don't use Ivermectrin de-wormer on lactating or pregnant goats. My vet told me to worm my pregnant goats with Ivermectrin and I think it caused problems. Not many large animal veterinarians have the right info for goats. It's very frustrating to not have the correct info I need.

Great goat vet book! Already was able to use it to help one of our goats. It is smaller than expected and didn't have info specifically on "ramming" injuries on young goat kids. I was able to use one of the items to help.

I agree with the previous review. It is written in England so the terminology and measurements are a bit different, but very comprehensive for a small book.
