There's one reason you can't buy this...,

I guess the big question I have is "why"? (Other than revenue). I used my new Cambridge Audio Azur 640C CD player, and my Grado Reference Series R2 headphones to compare this remaster with the 94 Virgin remaster.
This remaster is brighter and louder. The brightness is a tad annoying though because it's turned up so much that the highs are too "thin" -- the high-hats on Charlie's drums are tinny and have no pop at all. Upping the volume doesn't make the sound richer (my Grados don't lie folks). Mick's voice has a more resonant "separation" than the Virgin remaster -- it sounds less "muddled". The packaging is a disappointment too. The Virgin "Collector's Edition" gives you the ACTUAL original album packaging (cardboard Goats Head Soup photo, and gatefold with "album" sleeve -- I have yet to see a better CD package for the Stones). This remaster groups all that together in a booklet, which makes you wonder again... why? I bought all these remasters just to test out the sound, but I'm hoping Mick and the boys will take more control over their legacy before they let the record companies turn their catalog into the chaos that RCA has done to Elvis'. And folks... whatever they've done to Star Star means the whole thing is corrupted. You cannot buy this as your only copy of GHS, because they've done some kind of censoring to Star Star. Why has this occurred? That alone means you need to skip this. I wonder... did the Stones OK this?

Censored!,

I can't believe they released a censored version of this underrated classic stones album - pathetic. Why not just slap a parental advisory sticker on it. The stones should be ashamed of themselves!

Buyer beware - censored version,
This review is from: Goat's Head Soup (Reis) (Audio CD)
This new 2009 remastered edition has the censored version of 'Star Star.' If you want the uncensored version, seek out the 1994 Virgin edition.

A lot of people have been complaining about the fact that "p*ssy" line on the song "Star Star" is edited on the remastered CD version of this album. This may be the case, but anyone interested in the MP3 version of this album being sold on this website should know that the song is complete and unedited... does this mean that the version is the older remaster? I'm not quite sure, having nothing to compare it with. It sounds fine to me... for those coming here to vent (and baby, I don't blame you!), it might be worth just downloading the track if you bought the remaster and are feeling ripped off.
Anyway, those interested in the album and are scared away from cries of censorship (often a deal breaker for myself as well) can go ahead and purchase the MP3 version without worry. It's a fine album, but then you probably already knew that.

NEW STONE SOUND!,

I remember when this album was 1st released and how excited i was to play it...Some of the tracks were over my head for my age at the time
like, Can you hear the music, Coming Down Again, but others rocked like no other album, Star Star, 100 years ago and Heartbreaker.. This album also has one of the most beautiful ballads of all time, Angie. And a very nice slower track Winter... But when this kind of "dark" and a little laid back album was released on Cd back in 1986 the sound became "muddy" and even darker...Almost to becoming boring... This New Remaster brings this album back to life.. Songs that i never liked, i now love....(Coming down again, Can you hear the music). It is now much cleaner and less "muddy" sounding allowing you to NOW hear every note that Mick Taylor plays...Wow it sounds even better then it did when it was on a lp! The biggest problem some say is how they changed or bleeped a word from Star Star...This was why i waited to buy this cd...My copy the words are the same as on the lp which is great news. This remaster is well worth the price for a classic album! It brings back what the Stones were trying to do in the studio by not just making another Pop album.. It is a album ahead of its time back in 1973 and now we can finely hear it! Its like a Fine art restored and made New again...

Ignore This Censored Re-Issue,

I recommend against buying this album because the final track, Star Star, has been censored and neutered from it's original version. One can assume that the censorship resulted from an effort to comply with Wal-Mart's language policies (WM is the USA's #1 music retailer). I am a huge fan of the Rolling Stones, and do not blame them in the least; but I'm also a huge fan of Free Speech and Artistic Freedom. Please do not support censorship.

Makes Me Feel Like I'm Dancing on Air,
By
This review is from: Goat's Head Soup (Reis) (Audio CD)
One of my favorite records, I play the CD in my car constantly, listen to it on my iPod all the time when I jog in the early morning, listen to it on my iBook with headphones on when I write in the evening. "Goats Head Soup" is one of those records that begs to be listened to in the order the band and producer intended. Every song works as part of the whole, from the dancing with the Devil song to that miss-named song about the girl who can make you scream all night and will do anything, and I mean anything, for a star. Keith's vocals on "Coming Down Again" are just about his best ever. Mick Taylor shines throughout, but is especially good on "Winter." Mick Jagger pulls out all the stops on that song too. I can hear the music in all the songs. I feel it in my bones. It flows in my blood. This record makes me feel like I'm dancing on air, even when I'm stuck in rush hour traffic. This record lifts me up when I'm down, makes me feel glorious when I'm just happy. This is one of the best records ever made, I can't praise it highly enough.

What's been done to 'Star Star' represents the worst example of Stones self-censorship since Jagger sang 'Let's Spend Some TIME Together' on TV. Why bother? Only nostalgia freaks and Stones fanatics are gonna buy this album anyway, and they're hardly gonna be bothered by what used to be there. 'Soup' is certainly their weakest LP. There are some excellent songs on it, but the rubbish makes it hard listening from beginning to end. Such is their high strike rate that no other Stones album provides this kind of frustrating experience. And I seriously question the objectivity of the reviewers who're claiming a 'superb' job has been done on this reissue. Go and listen to the 1994 remaster; even with this weak material, the album SOUNDED better than this version. Why are The Stones treating their fans like this? Why won't they release a (proper) rarities set instead?

I just recieved my remastered copy of Goats Head Soup and it is not censored at all. This album in my opinion is underrated. The remastered sounds great too. Again, no censor on my copy.Very happy with this one.
