Editorial Reviews

Review

“This all has the refreshing spontaneous unforced high weirdness of the weirder Monty Python sketches, and it will reset your freakiness thermometer to a higher threshold than you thought possible.”—Cory Doctorow, author of Boing Boing

“Equal parts beer-soaked bar humor and psychedelic science fiction, blending two mutually exclusive elements into a fine, fine cocktail that makes you smarter the more you drink.”—Rick Marshall, editor, MTV Splash Page

“Jonathan Rosenberg has perfected a concoction of bizarre plot developments and quietly absurd dialogue.”
—Scott McCloud, author of Understanding Comics

“When Jonathan Rosenberg toils for our amusement, he hits the mark unerringly—and he doesn’t have the simple decency to make it look difficult.”—Jerry “Tycho” Holkins, co-creator of Penny Arcade

“Hilarious yet tender . . . the ultimate sci-fi adventure parody with an extra shot of human warmth slipped in.” —NPR

Introduced to Goats many years ago by a rather eccentric friend. One of the best things ever. Learned about kittens, pop-tarts, aliens, Satan, angry chickens, and drinking while disussing weighty matters.

This book, and the others in the trilogy, are an amazing artifact of dedication, devotion to form, and barest application of restraint. Watching the author develop over the years was part of the fun. These three books are the pinnacle of his development at the time they were created. Now that Goats is paused, we have these books to keep us company.

Look up his newer stuff too. Buy this book, buy the rest, save them to share with your kids. I promise it won't get you arrested. Probably.

I discovered Goats online some years ago. I followed the comic online for a while, but lost interest when it became hard to follow. Yet somehow, when packaged up in book form it all makes some sort of bizarre sense. And it is highly entertaining. Definitely recommended.

Goats is one heck of a twisted book. Just like Nemi has the Gothic humor vein down pat, Rosenberg has 'Goats' wrangled tightly.

This is a world inhabited by Jon and Phillip, goat demon Toothgnip and a host of absurd characters just out of the 'ordinary' frame of reference. I particularly enjoy the monkey sequence in volume three and wish they would take control of almost any African country.

Need a break from reality? Crack open a cool one, snap your posterior down, and open Showcase Showdown You will be entertained, confused, and certainly not disappointed!
Now, to find the webcomic....
