4.0 out of 5 stars Kids Eat Up Edible Math, July 6, 2001

This review is from: Gobble Up Math: Fun Activities to Complete and Eat (Paperback)
I'm using Gobble Up Math for a staff development session on "edible math" for primary math teachers. This book uses a variety of readily available foods to teach math concepts such as geometry, patterns, fractions, sets, counting, computation, etc. I particularly like the activities using pretzel sticks to create geometric shapes; using raisins "plopped" into peanut butter spread on celery sticks to practice addition facts, the commuative property, etc.; and the use of plain-old cheese slices to create fractional parts and equivalent fractions. Kids are highly motivated whenever food is involved. This book will add an interesting dimension to the teaching of math, AND they can eat their mathematical creations. Additionally, the activities are short and easy to read and prepare, a must for the busy classroom teacher who is always short on time.

5.0 out of 5 stars What fun!, June 21, 2008

This review is from: Gobble Up Math: Fun Activities to Complete and Eat (Paperback)
This book makes math learning fun! Most of the lessons are focused on the early elementary level, but all grades, K-6, could use the lessons with adjustments.
Everytime I pick the book up, I get more ideas-too many to use in our over crowded curriculums!! I first used this book to begin the year at a faculty inservice. All enjoyed the learning and found many new activities, not the same old still good lessons but have become boring for the teacher teaching. I don't think I need to say the children enjoy these lessons, afterall they have food in them!
