Product Description
Gobblers I Have Known…is a turkey hunting book for turkey hunters by a self-proclaimed turkey hunting fanatic. Go along with the author on hunts across the nation for the four subspecies that make up the Grand Slam and experience the excitement, frustration, intensity, and humor that make the great sport of spring turkey hunting special to all who participate. Hopefully you will better recognize the deep emotions that turkey hunting lends itself to, but above all you will be entertained by Herald’s straight forward “tell it like it is” style of writing about a subject that obviously means so much to him.

Most turkey hunting books are “how to” manuals geared toward newcomers to the sport. This book is different. It is primarily for the readers’ entertainment and is an enjoyable compilation of hunting stories and editorials. The book chronicles the evolution that has taken place in the author’s life concerning the pursuit of the most regal of game birds, the wild turkey. For Herald, wild turkeys and their hunting went from something he only read about in a few magazine articles, to a passion that leads him afield 30-40 days each spring in as many states as he can possibly squeeze into his schedule.

The book takes readers along on hunts spanning many years, chasing gobblers from south Florida, to northern Michigan, to South Dakota, to central Texas, and many places in between. Herald shares his outdoor experiences, both good and bad, and introduces many of the wonderful people with whom he has had the great fortune to share a turkey camp. He voices his opinions, however right or wrong you may find them, on tactics, guides, biology, ethics, and the mindset of turkey hunters, but above all, his appreciation and passion for America’s greatest game bird shines through.

About the Author
Tim Herald lives in Lexington, KY with his wife Alka and twin sons, Will and Drew. Herald has been hunting since he was six years old and is a passionate outdoorsman. He has hunted and guided for whitetail deer, wild turkeys, and waterfowl in 15 states and the province of Manitoba. After receiving a Master’s degree in Natural Resource Conservation, Tim has shared his experiences afield through many newspaper and magazine articles. Because he is a longtime member of the Knight & Hale Game Calls Pro Staff, Tim conducts seminars throughout the year and has also been featured in major outdoor publications and on television. Herald owns and operates hunt consultation service that specializes in hunts for the four sub-species of wild turkey that make up the Grand Slam. Being very conservation minded, Herald has also served three terms on the board of directors of the National Wild Turkey Federation’s Kentucky State Chapter.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great turkey hunting stories, including accidental tips, November 14, 2001
By mike gillespie (Pittsburgh, Pa) - See all my reviews
Tim does a great job avoiding a lecture, an instruction manual or a PhD discertation with this book. He simply tells very enjoyable turkey hunting stories, and inadvertantly, gives lots of great insight and tips on the sport. I recommend this book to novice turkey hunters, experts, or those just interested in a great read. You will really enjoy this book. It is an easy read, with plenty of action to keep your attention.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book, Highly Recommend, October 17, 2001
By "roger_arbuckle" (Greenville, Kentucky United States) - See all my reviews
This book will bring you almost as close to a turkey hunt as actually being there. The author paints a picture of the emotion and environment on each hunt. Once I picked the book up I never set it down until I read every page. This book interested me because the evolution of a turkey hunter is real and I could relate. I also picked up several good tips and viewpoints on hunting the elusive turkey.

This book differs than other turkey hunting books I have read. Most were how-to books that get quite boring. This book keeps you on the edge of your seat and dying to get to the next page to see what happens next, along with some helpful tips that I will definitely use the next time I'm in the spring turkey woods.

I can't wait until the author writes another!

4.0 out of 5 stars Turkey huntin' from a truly addicted soul, June 11, 2002
By Roland D Mundhenke "rdeanmjr" (Alpharetta, GA United States) - See all my reviews
Enjoyed this book immensely. Just good ol campfire tales of wild turkey huntin' with a little righteous opinions thrown in, most of which I agree wholeheartedly. He's one fine fellow in my book and could share my turkey woods anyday.
