This book does what few others do. It integrates literary theory with the historic Christian worldview of classical orthodoxy and shows why effective narrative plot patterns work on us the way they do. Good stories incarnate divine patterns of general revelation. The metanarrative framework which the Bible reveals is a more coherent interpretive key than relativistic postmodern anti-frameworks. Of interest to storytellers, theologians, and other truth tellers, as well as anyone who wants to experience deeper insight and enjoyment from understanding deep magic in good, true, and beautiful tales. If you like Leland Ryken, Gene Veith, or David Lyle Jeffery's theological insights about literature, you will love this book. It is both readable and substantive.

This book contains some incredible insights--into secular and Christian literature, into Scripture itself, and into the modern discussion of hermeneutics. I found the insights so good that after reading it I re-read my highlighting twice and compiled a summary of what I thought were the best points of the book. This is something I've never done with any other book written by human authors. If you are interested in any of the topics above, I think you'll find it an excellent investment of your time.
