1.0 out of 5 stars God Help the USA--or at least the citizens who listen to this drivel
My review of this album and Greenwood's work in general--it's sophmoric music over childish, jingoistic lyrics--and as a result it's very effective propaganda. The type of folks who are most prone to becoming taken in by nationalistic rhetoric are exactly the types this music appeals to--economically challenged types with little education or cultural awareness...

Lee Greenwood - God Bless The U.S.A.

If tomorrow all the things were gone
I worked for all my life
And I had to start again
With just my children and my wife

Thank my lucky stars
To be living here today
Cause the flag still stands for freedom
And they can't take that away

Chorus:
And I'm proud to be an American
Where at least I know I'm free
And I won't forget the men who died
Who gave that right to me
And I'd gladly stand up next to you
And defend Her still today
'Cause there ain't no doubt
I love this land
God Bless the U.S.A.

From the lakes of Minnesota
To the hills of Tennessee
Across the plains of Texas
From sea to shining sea

From Detroit down to Houston
And New York to L.A.
There's pride in every American heart
And it's time we stand and say...

That I'm proud to be an American
Where at least I know I'm free
And I won't forget the men who died
Who gave that right to me
And I'd gladly stand up next to you
And defend Her still today
'Cause there ain't no doubt
I love this land
God Bless the U.S.A.

And I'm proud to be an American
Where at least I know I'm free
And I won't forget the men who died
Who gave that right to me
And I'd gladly stand up next to you
And defend Her still today
'Cause there ain't no doubt
I love this land
God Bless the U.S.A.

4.0 out of 5 stars American Patriotism is not dead! Remember September 11, 2001, September 17, 2001

I applaud the many radio-stations that have created montages using this and other patriotic compositions as well as radio stations of ALL FORMATS; Rock, Rap, Pop, Blues, Jazz, not just country stations which are playing Mr Greenwoods song, "God Bless the USA", in it's entirety. This song could hardly be considered "trite" (as one previous reviewer so sadly remarked) and this emotion in Lee Greenwoods performance of this song in particular brings a tear to many American's eyes, especially in the light of the recent traqedy.

Thank you Lee Greenwood, for creating a TIMELESS song about American Patriotism that we can all understand and identify with. Thank you for writing a song that has helped bring many Americans TOGETHER in demonstrating the PRIDE, Dedication and Resilience of the people of the USA.

Today we are all AMERICANS...

5.0 out of 5 stars God Bless the USA, October 31, 2001

My husband is a Naval Officer who is actively serving this great country. The gentleman from Portland is entitled to his opinion regarding this song, that is his right, a right that my husband defends. This song has played while my husbands ship has pulled out of port for the Persian Gulf, it's played during commisioning of great ships and honoring great men. It is understood and praised by military families who's "daddy's" and "mommies" are deployed for half of their childrens lives.
But this is an honor and a choice that our families have chosen as difficult as it is.
This song is a reminder of that honor and freedom, and why they are out in the gulf and Afghanastan , which we should not forget. They are fighting to keep your families safe, while our families pray that they are.

I am curious as to how "music fan from North Carolina" feels about this song now since his/her review was done in May 2001.
This song has always brought a tear to my eye, even more so now then before

This song is all of what America stands. A Baltimore County Police Sergeant, Brothro,(not sure if spelled right)died in the line of duty. WPOC played this song in remembrance of him and it made me cry. This song never made me cry it only gave me chills. But when it refered to someone you just weep. Everyone should have a copy of this CD. they should play it much more on radio.
