5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful Book to Teach Children About Prayer, May 4, 2007
By
Toddler's Mommy (Friendswood, TX USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: God, Can You Hear Me? (Hardcover)
We just received this book and I read it to my 4 yr old daughter. We loved it. It's a wonderful book that explains how we as parents can't always solve our children's problems and how children need a relationship with God early in life.

An additional testimony: It is never too early to teach a child to pray. I realized this when my daughter's teacher taught the children to ask God to help them not be scared during a thunder storm. While we have always blessed our food and said prayers at bed time, now my husband, daughter, and I pray together every morning before leaving the house and sometimes she leads the prayer. There is nothing more touching than hearing a child pray. She usually thanks God for our family, all her friends, and her teacher, etc. (always mentioning specific names). I have to smile when she thanks God for candy and icecream and cheetos.

This book will be a great resource as we continue to teach our daughter how to pray to God in thanksgiving and in times of need. The beautiful illustrations look like oil paintings. Especially beautiful are the illustrations of the author, Justine Simmons, with her family.

My husband and I also really enjoy the show, Run's House, starring Justine Simmons, her husband, Joey (Rev. Run from the group Run DMC) and their children. It is a very funny show about a close-knit Christian family that happens to be famous.

5.0 out of 5 stars WONDERFUL Book!!!!!, May 22, 2007

I LOVE this book "God Can You Hear Me?" It provides a way for children to understand how simple it is to talk to God! It also provides them with lots of real life scenarios in which children might need help and understanding. It's never too early to start talking to children about God especially in this day and age where so many events happen that cause even us adults to question "why?" and this is an excellent way to help children understand that God is someone who is always available to both help them and listen to all of their questions and feelings.

5.0 out of 5 stars Teach Your Children to Seek God, September 8, 2007
This review is from: God, Can You Hear Me? (Hardcover)
Children are at the center of our universe and their untainted souls help to keep adults grounded in truth with clear vision. However, we forget that children have questions that we can't always answer. It is during these times that children need an outlet, a special friend to talk things over with, and a forgiving voice of reason - they need to hear from God.

Simmons does an extraordinary job at welcoming the hearts of children into her story. The issues discussed are pertinent to children today. Her heartfelt commentary is a pleasant relief to children storytelling. GOD, CAN YOU HEAR ME? should be part of every household library whether children are present or not. The lessons learned in the heart-warming text and colorfully illustrated pages provide motivation and inspiration to all.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice book but for older children, June 2, 2007
This review is from: God, Can You Hear Me? (Hardcover)
I think the book is excellent. Beautiful illustrations. I ordered it because I love the Simmons family. I ordered it for my two year old nephew and it is a little too mature for him. Stick to the 4-8 year recommendation preferably closer to 7 or 8 years old, in my opinion.

This book gave me a whole new respect for Justine Simmons and the role she plays in what seems to be a very healthy family. It was so wonderful to me to find a book that not only encompasses almost every form of analternative family, but for sending the message that each child's situation and/or concerns are "normal" too! Bravo....I actually have this book on display in the room I have prepared for my adoptive son/daughter coming soon! Thank you Justine!

4.0 out of 5 stars Had to buy this after watching Run's House, April 2, 2008

This review is from: God, Can You Hear Me? (Hardcover)
This book was a must for me, and I bought one as a gift for my best friend, too, after hearing Justine Simmon's had written a book. I love the show about her family, Run's House, on MTV. They are such a sweet, loving family. Parents who are faithful to God and VERY intertwined into their children's lives, as they SHOULD be. They are so inspiring as parents, I had to read what Justine would have to write to children. It's a sweet little book. Nothing out of this world, very easy-to-understand questions kids would have for God. My girls live in such a sheltered world - reading about some kids who are less fortunate, who may live in a one-parent household or other hardships they have to overcome, it was interesting to see my kids gain that perspective from a book. Also, super bonus that a few of the illustrations have Diggy or Russy (can't remember which one - but Justine's sons) in them!
