Is God a Chauvinist? is a truly liberating and enlightening God-send! Ms. Dodds carefully crafts a very informative, readable text that thoroughly examines and gives answers to the myriad of emotional, social, cultural, physical, and religious issues that face both Christian and non-Christian women today.

By fearlessly tackling tough issues such as domestic violence, sexuality, standards of beauty, female church leadership, and wifely submission, Ms. Dodds clearly demonstrates her keen insight and biblical scholarship concerning the true position in which God holds women - in His heart and in His plan.

Ms. Dodds presents a clear and convincing argument regarding women's high worth in the eyes of God. And although every woman seeking the truth in God's Word would find great value in reading this book, the author's "no-holds-barred" approach is particularly ideal for the newer generation of women and young girls who are barraged with a multitude of misogynistic messages found in today's music, literature, movies, and even in the church. And it can also be used as an effective witness tool and apologetic for those who have avoided the church due to an often chauvinistic environment.

As the director of a large social service agency that helps women and children fleeing from life-threatening domestic violence relationships, I have recommended and supplied this book to both my staff and our clients because I am convinced that once the reader, who may be bound by societal and ecumenical mistruths and misinterpretations, fully grasps Ms. Dodds' message of divinely-mandated equality and liberation, they will be empowered to embrace God's real vision for their lives and walk in His powerful purpose.

Believers and non-Believers, scholars and non-scholars, the young and the old, both men and women will find a divine gem in Is God a Chauvinist? I highly, highly recommend this book - it is definitely a life-changer!

I found "Is God a Chauvinist" by Elreta Dodds to be one of the most thought provoking, comprehensive and downright practical books on women I have ever read. Anyone who is in a position of leadership within Christian ministry needs to own a copy of this book. Dodds does not shy away from either giving advice or stepping on toes. In addition, she covers topics I have never seen addressed in any Christian publication, such as name changes in marriage, polygamy, rape, and sexual abuse in marriage. Talk about where angels fear to tread! Every woman needs a copy of this book.

Is God A Chauvinist?: The Bible And Women - A Complete Look by Elreta Dodds (Certified in Advanced Church Ministry by the Evangelical Training Association) is a carefully presented and highly informative study written expressly to dispel the notion that the Bible is inherently a chauvinistic or sexist book. Exploring women's concerns ranging from domestic violence, to marriage roles, pregnancy, how Jesus treated women, and more, Is God A Chauvinist? in an thoughtful and thought-provoking contribution to both Christian Studies, Biblical Studies, and Women's Studies reading lists and reference collections.

The author, like many writings on religion, seems to use ceratin passages to back up her own opinion and discount passages that don't suit her agenda. I admit my own biases come into play here as well. I found some definite leaps in judgment. For example, when discussing choice, she uses the fact that God had plans for Jeremiah before he was born to assert that God chooses to create every person (though she begins the chapter talking about how God us gave free will- which should logically extend to the will to have sex). Not only does she therefore allege that we are all equal in stature to Jeremiah such that text that refers specifically to him should apply to us all, but she is basically saying that God plans rapes and other situations where pregnancy may result. To quote Dr. Paul D. Simmons, "To argue that God either causes or permits rape and incest and consequent pregnancy, or that God causes every hideous anomaly, is to say blaspemous and heretical things about God."
