Book Description

June 15, 2005
This book may allow some people to overcome their fear of a vengeful, cruel god that they have been taught to believe in as children. It may allow more people to speak out when they hear religious leaders use their gods to incite people to do harm to other people. It may even allow more of us to admit, "I could be wrong."

Editorial Reviews

Review

Dr Henderson has written a simple, easy to understand book on the harmful effects of organized religion ... --William Harwood

ideal for a gift from an atheist or agnostic to a theist who “has everything else.” --Richard T. Hull, Ph.D., Retired Professor of Philosophy

This book is an apt kind of summary of all the objections to the god ideas voiced by thoughtful people. --Wolf Roder, Professor of Geography, University of Cincinnati

WOW!... Never have I read anything that mirrors my own personal philosophy about God so well! This book should be required reading for any Unitarian Universalist, like myself, who really wants to know what it means to seek truth as a humanist. John gives us plenty of reasons why we should not think that 'In God We MUST Trust'! An obvious conclusion is that the best thing to have faith in is yourself. I constantly redefine, by reason, my spiritual equation to live by. Thank you John Henderson for writing great words that fit in that formula!!! This is really an extremely intelligent, well written book deserving far more than a simple AMEN!!

Most important, I am a Southern Baptist. I read as much as possible on the topic of religion. This is one of the best researched books you will find on religion. Page for page, it has more facts and commentary than books that are considerably more portly. While I can not agree with every conclusion, I recommend this to anyone who has interest in the subject.
