God cries can't be denied., March 24, 2008
This review is from: God Cries (Audio CD)
A marvelous dutch band by the name of Asphyx specializes in dark relentless grooves and macabre themes. God Cries is the perfect example of those said categories. You can pop in this record and garuntee good listens with the songs "cut-throat urges" and "frozen soul". I first heard this band on a DM compilation and was attracted to Asphyx ever since.

"Pantera clone band"? What a twit!, October 30, 2007
This review is from: God Cries (Audio CD)
PLEASE believe me folks, I've listened to metal for 25 years, so I know of what I speak-Asphyx are not even CLOSE to being a Pantera clone band! Nothing against Pantera, but this album BURIES anything they've ever done. Asphyx is old-school influenced death metal with huge, grinding riffs and tortured, howling vocals similar to(but not a clone of) Death or Obituary. The clown who wrote that first review probably never listened to anything besides what he could buy at Wal-Mart. Listen for yourself!

good death metal, September 1, 1999

asphyx have been around just as long as pantera.. if not longer and are considerably different in style due to the fact they are not a mainstream act ..they deserve respect for being one of the first death metal bands(century media)....to compete w/ the mainstream metal (lame) scene....

This sounds like a faster version of Pantera with Phil Anselmo screaming at the top of his lungs.
