Editorial Reviews

Review

Not many theologians can speak of Conscious bliss from a place of personal experience. The author, a renowned twentieth-century spiritual teacher and founder of the Self Realization Fellowship, the source behind this book, can. His personal authority lends dramatic credibility to concepts and methods for spiritual aspirants from any tradition, from uncertain agnostics to fervent believers.

Walters has rewritten and updated Yogananda's earlier The Science of Religion into this clear and thoroughly captivating book, making the original work eminently more accessible to large numbers of contemporary spiritual seekers. ...Yogananda offers an extraordinary ecumenical outlook even as he embodies age-long traditions of Indian spiritual wisdom. The rational, cognitive Western approach to religion is balanced with the wisdom and compassion so honored in the East. By synthesizing these two valuable frames of influence, God Is for Everyone helps the modern reader consider concepts of God and spiritual meaning within an intelligent, religiously unified framework.

About the Author

J. Donald Walters (Swami Kriyananda) is an internationally known author, lecturer, and composer. Widely recognized as one of the world’s foremost authorities on meditation and yoga, he has taught these principles and techniques to hundreds of thousands of students around the world.

An advocate of simple living and high thinking, his more than 80 books emphasize the need to live wisely by one’s own experience of life, and not by abstract theories or dogmas.

In 1968, Walters founded Ananda Village in Nevada City, California, dedicated to spreading the spirit of friendship, service, and community throughout the world. Ananda is recognized as one of the most successful intentional community in the world. Today, over 1,000 people reside in five Ananda communities throughout the U.S. (Seattle, Palo Alto, Portland, Sacramento and Ananda Village) and in Europe. The European retreat and community located in Assisi, Italy, also serves Ananda meditation groups in Europe, Croatia, and Russia. Both the Nevada City and Assisi communities have world-renowned guest retreat facilities where thousands of visitors annually visit for renewal or instruction in many aspects of meditation, yoga, and the spiritual life. Walters has also established "Living Wisdom" schools for grades K-12 in Nevada City, Sacramento, Portland, and Palo Alto.

Mr. Walters books and music have sold over 3 million copies worldwide and been translated into 28 languages. He is the author of more than 80 books on a variety of topics including leadership, education, creativity, and moral values. A composer since 1964, Walters has written over 400 musical works. His music is inspiring, soothing, and uplifting. Many of his new albums are instrumental works with brief affirmations or visualizations. Chuck Dilberto, of Awareness Magazine says, "Walters’ words and music are full of his life and light. His sole intention is to heal, something we could all use during these chaotic times". His recent albums include Secrets of Love, Music to Awaken Superconsciousness, Windows on the World and Surrender: Mystical Music for Yoga. 5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Rendition of a Great Work, May 10, 2006
This review is from: God is for Everyone (Paperback)
Swami Kriyananda has done a tremendous job capturing the spirit and letter of what Yogananda originally intended for this book, earlier published under the title The Science of Religion. I've read both books and greatly prefer this one. I think God is for Everyone clearly conveys the message that Yogananda wished to send to America and Americans when he first came to this country: that God is not some distant Being, but very accessible; and that whatever it is we want in life, we will find it more truly, fully, and completely if we begin by seeking Him.

5.0 out of 5 stars For readers of all theological and religious backgrounds, March 8, 2004
This review is from: God is for Everyone (Paperback)
Non-sectarian and non-dogmatic in its approach to universal faith, God Is For Everyone is a powerful testimony to the rich rewards of a spiritual life. Describing God as an ever-present, ever-conscious force that all can tap into, it offers insight into promoting mutual respect and understanding among the religious traditions of the world. Written for nonspecialist general readers of all theological and religious backgrounds, God Is For Everyone is a life-affirming treatise steeped in the wisdom of Paramhansa Yogananda and his disciple, J. Donald Walters (Swami Kriyananda).

5.0 out of 5 stars God has to be for everyone, August 12, 2005
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: God is for Everyone (Paperback)
God HAS to be for everyone! - If God is so great - powerful - controlling - creating, then practically there should be no problem in accepting God's existence. The minds of many a great have come to the point of inquiring whether a God really exists or not; turning to religion, many find it difficult to accept and cherish the orthodox approach religion takes in defining God.

If a God exists and we are a part of God, whether realizing it or not the saint and the sinner alike must both be under the influence of God. What does everyone on this planet want? We strive for pleasure and happiness all the time... as if they're in control of our lives. Happiness and pleasure in essence are actually bliss, which has to be God! This book explains to the reader that God IS bliss and helps them to understand that we can seek ultimate fulfillment only in God.
