4.0 out of 5 stars It's not the old Skynyrd - and you know what, get over it, August 1, 2010

Much of the criticism I have read about Lynyrd Skynyrd's newest album is that it sounds more modern than it does old school Skynyrd. Well, this isn't old school Skynyrd, and for good reason. There's only so many times we can listen to Free Bird and Sweet Home Alabama. God and Guns is not their best effort, but for a new Skynyrd album in the high times of teen sensation crap, this is a most welcomed album and a delight. Unfortunately radio stations (at least in my local area) play old school tunes from older bands. When I hear AC/DC, all I hear is Back in Black or Hells Bells (both great tunes), but I have yet to hear any station play a tune from Ballbreaker or even an older album like Flick of the Switch. When I hear Skynyrd on the radio it is always Sweet Home Alabama or the (ridiculous) radio cut of Free Bird (cutting 4-5 minutes from the song). It's unfortunate I will never hear a tune from God and Guns because it is a solid album. It is one of those albums that really has no "stick-out" single - by that I mean a song that stands out from the rest. It is a better album to listen to it's entirety rather than just a single tune.

I can certainly understand those who don't like it because it isn't the Lynyrd Skynyrd you grew up with, but all bands change their tune a bit over time. At least we still have classic bands putting out new albums in this day in age where real music is dying and YouTube crap is taking over the airwaves.

5.0 out of 5 stars New and IMPROVED Lynrd Skynrd, August 20, 2010
This review is from: God & Guns (Amazon MP3 Exclusive Version) (MP3 Download)
A lot of reviewers just want to compare this Skynyrd to the original Skynyrd. They are not this; or, they are not that,Yada, Yada, Yada/ The original band was great in their time period but this band is great now. In some ways (Religious undertow, patriotic) they are better. Think of it as the New Skynyrd with IMPROVED messaging.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lynyrd Skynyrd, August 17, 2010

Well , Let me tell ya all something. I remember the original band. The fact of the matter is I was at the last concert ever played by the original band. These guys had they all survived were on their way. It was unfortunate what happened to them in the plane crash, My thoughts on the new band well, they still managed to catch the drums, and the lead and the heavy bass that Lynyrd Skynryd. was known for. To the un trained ear and even the trained ear the vocals are so close that on some songs, the hair on the back of my neck stood up. Will there ever be another band like the orginal. Hell no, but they come awful darn close. And in this ole boys eyes and ears thats just fine with me.

Rock on my friends Rock on. May the Free Bird always carry you to Sweet Home Alabama. Heaven has one Hell Of a band.
