Format: Hardcover
My children love this book! It has become required bedtime reading at our house, so much so that we've memorized the story. My youngest, who knows the book word for word, pretends to read along with me. He finds it so comforting to know that God is with him through the night, taking care of him just as He cares for the tender baby animals that illustrate the story. It's a simple, but powerful, faith-based message that will encourage your children throughout their lives. Buy this book (and its companion, God is With Me Through the Day). You'll be glad you did.

The perfect end to our hectic days, this book is as comforting as a mother's hug. Snuggling into bed to look at these gorgeous photographs of God's creatures is a soothing reminder that we all need sanctuary from our busy days. This book is a wonderful way to encourage gratitute for all God has given us, including one another.

There are two new books put out by ZonderKidz by Julie Cantrell entitled "God is with Me through the Night" and "God is with Me through the Day." I can't tell you what a breath of fresh air it was to flip through the pages of these books and see that the pictures, style and text all fit well together. Each page has a large picture of a baby animal with a simple sentence. Each book highlights fears young children might have of the dark or during the day when separated from mom or dad because of school or day care. They then reassure children that God is always there and that mom and dad will always return.

These books would be perfect for very young children up through 5 or 6 years old. The pictures are cute and captivating, and the words are very simple. These books could very well be used to help early readers practice their reading skills, too. Kudos to Julie for sharing these books that were initially meant for her children. Kudos to ZonderKidz for recognizing great material for kids' picture books. I highly recommend these books.

As a teacher of three year olds at a church this book is a must have. I read it today to my class and they loved it. I shared it with the parents of the kids and told them they could purchase it from amazon. My three year old loves this book too. I can't wait to purchase God is with me through the day. I had the wonderful pleasure of meeting Julie when I got this copy of her book and she is so sweet and down to earth. I found her very inspiring.

I bought this book for my grandson for his 2nd birthday. Not only does my grandson love it, but his grandfather loves it too! Reading for my husband is usually a chore, especially to a 2 year old, but this book has such great pictures to go along with the reading. I love to see them cuddled together in the recliner reading this book - it is like a new book every time they read it because something different catches my grandson's eye on each page.

A simple, yet wonderful read. My boys have enjoyed this book over and over. The illustrations are so sweet and reinforce the story of security and love. It makes a great gift, so pick one up for a birthday, Christmas or as an addition to your child's book collection! PS. You can also pick up the book God is with Me through the Day by Julie Cantrell. They are the perfect pair!

God is With Me Through the Night by Julie Cantrell is a companion book to God is With Me Through the Day. In fact, it's an extremely similar book, except it discusses nighttime fears instead of daytime fears.

The book outlines a child's typical evening: he plays with his family, snuggles with his parents, and gets tucked into bed with a kiss from mama. But then, in the dark of his bedroom, he begins to feel frightened. He hears "weird noises" and sees "strange shadows." But "Mama tells me God is with me, even in the dark." God kept Daniel safe from the lions, and he keeps children safe, too.

"I roar like a tiger, 'I am safe!' And then all the scary thoughts go away. I fall asleep and find my happy dreams."

In God's hands, the child feels brave, and loved, and safe. The book ends by quoting Isaiah 41:10 ("Do not fear, for I am with you.")

Throughout, the book is illustrated by nature photographs that are beautiful and cute. For example, when bravery is mentioned, we see a bear cub standing on its hind legs and stretching its paws. When happiness is mentioned, we see an ostrich that looks like its smiling. When stretching after a good night's sleep is mentioned, we see a giraffe stretching its hind legs. The photos are fascinating for young kids.

What I Like: One of the problems with picture books about fear is that it's difficult to make them universal enough they don't put ideas about previously unknown fears into a child's head. In this case, if your child doesn't already imagine scary shadows and sounds in the dark, this is not a book you want to read them. On the other hand, if your child is afraid of the dark, this is a great title to have in your home library.

I was introduced to this book by my MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers) group and was impressed by the powerful succinct message. It is sweet, funny, comforting and realistic! I love that the intense expressions on the animal's faces illustrate the feelings so clearly for my little one.

I am a teacher and have seen SO many books & own SO many books, so I am picky, especially about what I BUY! I think this book will be a staple in our house for years, so I not only bought this one, but also God is with Me Through the Day, but bought 2 extra copies as gifts! It is the perfect length, long enough to settle someone, but not so long that you wish you could just skip a few pages to get the kiddos to bed!

It meets a very important need, to help our children feel secure and have hope, trusting in a wonderful God who loves them (and everyone). Our world is a scary place, but Julie Cantrell highlights the beauty an joy in it!

Someone was even saying this book would make a great gift for a college student or person leaving home for a new adventure.
