Book Description

0966132750 978-0966132755 March 2000
. . . The God of Jane, the God of Joe, the God of Lester, the God of Sarah . . . An appeal to that "God" would be an appeal to that portion of universal creativity from which we personally emerge . . . It would stand for that otherwise inconceivable intersection between Being and our being . . .(from chapter 7)

In The God of Jane, the most personal of her books, Jane Roberts bravely questions the very material she produced (the many volumes of Seth material) as well as her own psychic abilities. "This book," she writes, "is the story of my efforts to put Seth's material to work in daily life; to free myself from many hampering cultural beliefs; and most of all, to encounter and understand the nature of impulses . . ."

What Roberts discovers is her individual connection to the larger consciousness-or "God."

With a new introduction by Susan M. Watkins, author of Conversations with Seth.

Editorial Reviews

Review

Equally distrustful of ancient religious pieties and the cant of modern scientism, Jane Roberts passionately forges a distinctively American and democratic path of spirituality that places the uniqueness of the individual at the center of his or her own universe. Feisty and invigorating, yet deeply personal and self-revealing, this book gives us an unparalleled glimpse of the inner life and thought of one of the most significant and enduring voices of twentieth-century spirituality. -- Kenneth Ring, Ph.D. Professor Emeritus of Psychology at the University of Connecticut and author of Lessons from the Light and Heading Toward Omega

Jane Roberts possessed a combination of psychic talent and intellectual curiosity that contributed enormously to our understanding of human consciousness. -- Norman Friedman, author of Bridging Science and Spirit and The Hidden Domain

Of all Jane's books, The God of Jane is the one in which she most reveals herself, and her uncertainty concerning Seth's ideas about reality and our physical lives. We can learn much from her personal struggles as she questions and incorporates Seth's theories into her own life. -- Lynda Madden Dahl, award-winning author of Beyond the Winning Streak and Ten Thousand Whispers

About the Author

Jane Roberts (1929-1984), author of the Seth material, is considered one of the most important psychics of the twentieth century. From 1963 through 1984 she spoke for Seth, who described himself as an "energy personality essence no longer focused in physical reality." In addition to nine books by Seth she also wrote fourteen books of her own. The Jane Roberts/Seth material, which includes many volumes of unpublished material, is housed at the Yale University Archives and is consistently one of the top two most visited collections in the archives.

Because of her contribution to the study of consciousness, Moment Point Press has dedicated its Classics in Consciousness series to Jane Roberts. In addition to The God of Jane, look for new editions of Roberts's Adventures in Consciousness and Psychic Politics.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fascinating, informative reading for students of metaphysics, February 23, 2001
This review is from: The God of Jane: A Psychic Manifesto (Classics in Consciousness Series Books) (Paperback)
The late Jane Roberts (1929-1984) is best remembered by students of metaphysical studies for her "Seth" books. In The God Of Jane, Roberts bravely questioned the very material she produced in those many volumes of the Seth series, as well as her own psychic abilities. Regarding, The God Of Jane, she wrote "This book is the story of my efforts to put Seth's material to work in daily life; to free myself from many hampering cultural beliefs; and most of all, to encounter and understand the nature of impulses." As all of her earlier works, The God Of Jane will prove fascinating and informative reading for students of metaphysics, psychology, spirituality, and self-realization. Two additional and highly recommended Jane Robert's titles are her Adventures In Consciousness (0966132734) and Psychic Politics (0966132742).

5.0 out of 5 stars A Rollicking, Revealing Glimpse into Jane Robert's Life, October 19, 2001
This review is from: The God of Jane: A Psychic Manifesto (Classics in Consciousness Series Books) (Paperback)
A true fan of all the Seth books, I have read them many times over. Often, however, I find myself coming back to this book when I especially need inspiration. In it you will find several fascinating Seth sessions (including discussions of a revolutionary approach to life called "Framework 2"). But more than any other book by Jane Roberts, it is in THE GOD OF JANE that she really lets her hair down. For the first time we learn of her painful experiences as a child on welfare, caring for a sickly and emotionally difficult mother. Plus how she overcame these and many other obstacles to eventually become the woman who spoke for Seth.

This is quite simply one of the most important books ever written on the subject of the origin of religion. It offers a fresh view from a unique perspective and offers insights that really nobody but Jane Roberts could ever conceive. With unswerving courage she blazes a new path for those with the patience to try and understand what she is saying. A truly remarkable achievement that has been completely and utterly overlooked by mainstream anything, which is a pity, because this book has something very important to say. Maybe in the decades to come Jane Roberts will get the credit she deserves for forging a better path for humanity.

Considering the gentle elements of serendipity that helped define my sixteen-year friendship with Jane Roberts, the fact that I'm writing this introduction today, more than fifteen years after her death, strikes me as not only ironic but amazing, and a wee bit impertinent besides. Read the first page
