Fascinating, informative reading for students of metaphysics,
By Midwest Book Review (Oregon, WI USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The God of Jane: A Psychic Manifesto (Classics in Consciousness Series Books) (Paperback)
The late Jane Roberts (1929-1984) is best remembered by students of metaphysical studies for her "Seth" books. In The God Of Jane, Roberts bravely questioned the very material she produced in those many volumes of the Seth series, as well as her own psychic abilities. Regarding, The God Of Jane, she wrote "This book is the story of my efforts to put Seth's material to work in daily life; to free myself from many hampering cultural beliefs; and most of all, to encounter and understand the nature of impulses." As all of her earlier works, The God Of Jane will prove fascinating and informative reading for students of metaphysics, psychology, spirituality, and self-realization. Two additional and highly recommended Jane Robert's titles are her Adventures In Consciousness (0966132734) and Psychic Politics (0966132742).

A Rollicking, Revealing Glimpse into Jane Robert's Life,
By Joseph B. Mullen, Psychic Author (Effingham, NH USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The God of Jane: A Psychic Manifesto (Classics in Consciousness Series Books) (Paperback)
A true fan of all the Seth books, I have read them many times over. Often, however, I find myself coming back to this book when I especially need inspiration. In it you will find several fascinating Seth sessions (including discussions of a revolutionary approach to life called "Framework 2"). But more than any other book by Jane Roberts, it is in THE GOD OF JANE that she really lets her hair down. For the first time we learn of her painful experiences as a child on welfare, caring for a sickly and emotionally difficult mother. Plus how she overcame these and many other obstacles to eventually become the woman who spoke for Seth.

One of the most important books you've never read....,

This review is from: The God of Jane: A Psychic Manifesto (Classics in Consciousness Series Books) (Paperback)
This is quite simply one of the most important books ever written on the subject of the origin of religion. It offers a fresh view from a unique perspective and offers insights that really nobody but Jane Roberts could ever conceive. With unswerving courage she blazes a new path for those with the patience to try and understand what she is saying. A truly remarkable achievement that has been completely and utterly overlooked by mainstream anything, which is a pity, because this book has something very important to say. Maybe in the decades to come Jane Roberts will get the credit she deserves for forging a better path for humanity.

Challenging your beliefs,
By Haran "Haran, Author of "75 Lives of Hara... (South Africa) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The God of Jane: A Psychic Manifesto (Classics in Consciousness Series Books) (Paperback)
This book represents the author's quite discriminating views from many years of being a channel and being exposed to an extraordinary amount of highly insightful channelled information. It is really all about our beliefs and how they affect our lives in very fundamental ways and often without even being consciously aware of them. As always, this can be applied in positive and negative ways.
The book is quite challenging because we invariably think that our views are right and any questioning of our beliefs is interpreted as a personal attack instead of recognizing that all our beliefs are based on what we were taught by others i.e. their beliefs, or from our own quite selective experiences. Also, often we simply follow the general consensus. Although we know that everybody once believed that the earth was flat we would never admit that any of our present cherished beliefs could be faulty or completely wrong and we would immediately shout `blasphemy' it somebody dared to ask about the foundations of our religious beliefs. But this is precisely what the author does. She probes deeply into the controversial issues, such as how nations were shaped by their God concepts, how the outlook on life is determined by religious dogmas (beliefs which are portrayed as absolute truth), how scientific beliefs deny the validity of subjective experiences or the existence of meaning in life, how we buy into psychology portraying us as hopeless failures, or, in a rather self-critical way, how channeled information can be completely misinterpreted. All of these issues are man made and they could all retard us in many ways. She is not saying that there is anything wrong with beliefs per se, but that we should allow our beliefs to change. In fact she offers new ways of looking at various issues. In particular she stresses the importance of following impulses in our lives because they enable the expansion of consciousness and creative fulfilment and they are a constructive way of getting out of limiting beliefs. This is an excellent and challenging book for questioning your beliefs. Haran, author of '75 Lives of Haran - New Insights into Reincarnation'

AN EXPOSITION OF JANE ROBERTS' VIEWS, NOT THOSE OF "SETH",
By
This review is from: The God of Jane: A Psychic Manifesto (Paperback)
Jane Roberts (1929-1984) was an American author, poet, psychic and spirit medium, who claimed she had "channeled" a personality she called "Seth," who manifested himself while she was in trance, and whose "material" has been published in a great many volumes (e.g., Seth Speaks: The Eternal Validity of the Soul, The Seth Material, Adventures in Consciousness: An Introduction to Aspect Psychology (Classics in Consciousness Series Book), etc.).
She wrote in the first chapter of this 1981 book, "When Seth first began delivering this material I didn't realize that it would lead me into beginning what amounted to an accelerated course in higher education, forcing me to look into my own beliefs as never before, or that it would inspire me to write this book, which is my most personal one thus far. Actually this manuscript is the story of my efforts to put Seth's latest material to work in daily life; to free myself from many hampering cultural beliefs; and, most of all, to encounter and understand the nature of impulses in general, and mine in particular... There ARE some exciting alternate views of reality, though, as I hope to show in this book." Here are some additional quotations from the book: "If I'd thought, back in the 60's, that I'd finallly escaped the dogmas of religion, the sophisticated beliefs of psychology and science had been just as limiting, though I didn't realize it." (Pg. 35) "To deny that I have any ordinary human difficulties denies part of my life, of course. Psychic abilities are HUMAN qualities... So, it goes without saying that I make no 'supernatural' claims. I don't matererialize holy ash, or perform miracles at midday. I don't claim to be a healer, though I believe that each of us has the ability to heal ourselves." (Pg. 39) "In the past I have sometimes thought that maybe life is meaningless after all. Then I'd think that maybe the Seth material is a kind of cosmic poppycock---the chemical composition of my mind somehow intellgent enough to understand the irony of its own meaninglessness..." (Pg. 51) "I felt as if I were viewing that part of myself that I'm always pursuing, that part that is as clear-eyed as a child, fleet, and at one with its own knowing... the part that represented that section of the universe from which I emerged in each moment of my life. And, in that moment, I named it the God of Jane." (Pg. 64) "But I did know that we weren't at the 'mercy' of nature. Instead, we were a part of nature's events." (Pg. 199)

Is the sun yellow, the sky when clear blue? Well, Jane Roberts is like that in that she writes great books. I left this review in the present tense for a reason. You'd know it if you read her books. ;-)

I feel incredibly blest to have read this book. To me Jane came to life, literally, as I read it. When I got to her "Psychic Manifesto" poem I wept at the import and depth of it. She put words to what my heart and mind were already feeling; her eloquence is loving, magical and heroic. I found myself saying, in a barely audible voice since I was in public when I first read the poem, "Thank you, Jane. I can feel you right here next to me." I immediately went home and read it out loud about four more times and each time tears rolled down my eyes at the recognition, liberation and affection that filled my being as I did. Since I agree with Jane/Seth that there is no such thing as a coincidence, this student was ready hence teacher Jane appeared. It is comforting and I am grateful beyond words to have her during this part of my journey. Like her I had, even as a very young child, railed at God/religion bec all I could see was the hypocrisy of the church and the stupidity of its teachings. Little did I know that I had missed the other big piece of dogma floating around in my consciousness called science. That all got cleared up here, pronto quick. It was so big that I couldn't see it, basically. I could never do justice to this book. Read it and experience the journey for yourself. Certainly every reader will be affected by it uniquely. The reading of it, as it becomes part of your atoms and cells, will create something extraordinary that though cannot be seen by the eyes will be felt by all of creation. <3

An alternate view of God,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: God of Jane (Hardcover)
This book gives an alternate view of just how directive God is in our lives. Jane Roberts explains her Catholic upbringing and how she has now formed a very different view of what and who God is. In this book and her other books (and Seth's books) she goes into a detailed discussion of the nature of our existence and how we determine what happens in our life.
