Editorial Reviews

In the late 1990's a group of kids from a Rio de Janeiro favela (shantytown) embarked on an ambitious and imaginative project in an attempt to stay out of trouble. Almost a decade later, the result is an intricate scale model of their favela constructed of broken bricks and inhabited by hundreds of LEGO figures which was featured in the Fifty-Second Venice Biennale. The film captures over eight years of changes in their lives, their neighborhood, and their travels, creating a stirring glimpse of the transformative power of art.
