Being a Mormon for 27 years; I can tell you it is not easy for a Mormon to find out the fallacies of their religion. The Mormon people need to realize it is not the writings of people like Ed Drecker, but their so called prophets that continally contradict the bible and their own teachings.

I do not agree with many of these reviews that claim the book is full of lies--quite the contrary. However, I would not recommend anyone suggest this book to a "True Believing Mormon." True believers tend to be very narrow minded (take it from me I was one; and so are many in my hometown of Rexburg, Idaho, which is an extremely large population of Mormons). This is why I recommend a more loving approach to these true believers. "Mormonism, Mama, and Me" is a book that exposes the corruption in the foundation of the church in a much more loving approach for the "true believer." I was only able to read The God Makers after I had completely left the church--which was a long process and not something that happened over night.

This book is abbrasive; but after many years of research, I belive the truth can withstand scrutiny (it took me many years to come to this realization). Read this book for yourself if you so desire; I did enjoy it. But as I stated earlier do not use this book to witness to true believing Mormons; it is too abbrasive for people who have devoted their lives to not just a religion, but a lifestyle. I pray everyday for Mormons to open their minds and hearts so they may too see the lies in the foundation of the organization they belong to.

God Bless.

3.0 out of 5 stars Unfortunately this book is true, March 29, 2006
This review is from: The God Makers: A Shocking Expose of What the Mormon Church Really Believes (Paperback)
It took a very long time for me to read this book. And I mean years. I spent all my youth turning a blind eye to anything anyone said about the Mormon church that made me uncomfortable. It is very true when they say "ignorance is bliss." Also anyone who is raised in any religion is brain-washed to believe what they are taught. But I found myself always not knowing what I was talking about. Would you believe that though I was raised a Mormon I never knew that Joseph Smith was a polygamist and his wife Emma was unaware of some of his marriages and that he married women who already had husbands? (So much for the teaching that Brigham Young only taught polygamy because there was a shortage of husbands.) I also didn't know that Brigham Young strongly taught that Adam was God, and that God lived on a planet called Kolab, and that God came down in the form of a man and had physical relations with Mary to conceive Jesus. I didn't know a thing about blacks being denied the priesthood until 1978, and I could go on and on and on and on. I only started to research these things (against the strong advice of my bishop) because I wanted to be able to "debate" about the truthfulness of my religion to non-members.

Discovery the truth of my religion was a horrible experience for me. I can not express enough how hard it is for a Mormon to leave the religion. Mormonism isn't just a religion. It's your identity and your whole life. It is very important to be understanding to Mormons because leaving Mormonism is no different than leaving your whole life and everyone that loves you. It's a horrible awakening to see the truths of the Mormon church.

Also anyone who goes through the secret rituals of the temple can tell you it's a very shocking experience, whether you believe in it or not. In the temple among many things, I had to promise secrecy with a bloody oath. I drew my thumb across my throat as if my throat was being slit, and I drew my thumb over my abdomen indicating that my bowels would be cut out. I also was angry to learn that someday when I married, my husband would be my way to the Celestial kingdom. In the 80's at BYU we were taught that a woman could only go as high as her husband. (I don't know whether this is still taught or not because many doctrines are changing.)

The final breaking point came for me when I was on my mission in Argentina and I watched at least a few hundred ignorant people who knew nothing about the religion getting baptized. It was honestly like a joke. And I can't count how many children were baptized without their parents even knowing. We missionaries only had permission to take them to church! But the pressure to baptize people is so strong. It's all about numbers. (I myself never baptized because I'm a woman.)

As a former mormon I can tell you first hand how very imbedded the Mormon beliefs are in Mormons. There is no doubt in their mind that their religion is the "one and only true religion." I believe though that someday the Mormon church will be widely known for what it is and that Joseph Smith will be exposed for being a con man. In the meantime, all books and websites written should be done so kindly. Most Mormons are innocent and mormonism is not their fault.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Evil book!!! That's what I was told..., October 18, 2011
This review is from: The God Makers: A Shocking Expose of What the Mormon Church Really Believes (Paperback)
I was a member of the Mormon faith for 38 years...very active raising our 8 children in what we thought was true. My husband served in the Bishopric I held many leadership positions and we visited the Temple often, we were doing what we had been told to do...and to not question it! I had not touched any anti-Mormon literature...EVER!!! I was told by many Leaders it will only make you doubt...well I started doubting long before I read any books outside of the Mormon faith, for me the doubts started as I grew up..although I believed if I only would just marry a worthy Mormon Man there would be less doubt, well it seemed to distract me long enough...about 16 years of making babies lack of sleep and all the extra stress of being a Mormon. Still I knew when I taught lessons and sang songs about Joseph Smith and rarely heard the name of Jesus in sacrament meeting...and many more things way to many to take time to write about.
I was starving for Jesus Christ...no more stuff! I was sick of it all...I knew Jesus was the key to EVERYTHING! And he was not in the Mormon church!
I didn't need any books to know I needed only to worship Jesus!!!! He is the way~The Gospel of Jesus Christ is not a religion...it is a relationship!!!
I am told that I am taking the easy way out.....You have got to be kidding!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My Father and close friends have stop speaking to me, I am looked at as a Lost soul...even my so called best friend told me, the Devil had my soul....WOW! This is this hardest thing I have ever done in my life, our older children are upset and feel betrayed...why would I want this????
After leaving I did start reading anti-Mormon stuff...why not I had read the Book of Mormon all my life!

I have read several books in the past year... here is the list:

Joseph Smith: Rough Stone Rolling
No Man Knows My History: The Life of Joseph Smith
Mormon Enigma: Emma Hale Smith
Early Mormonism and the Magic World View
The Keystone of Mormonism
Losing a Lost Tribe: Native Americans, DNA, and the Mormon Church
View of the Hebrews 1825
An Insider's View of Mormon Origins

I have done my study....The God Makers is my last book to read and I so wish I would have read it first!!! It spoke volumes to how I see the Mormon church...I know many good Mormons who are trying there hardest to be there best perfect selves and I love them and I am so very sad for the blanket that covers there eyes...I have been there! There is a difference when you truly know! Judge me all you want....but PLEASE PLEASE study the history of the Mormon church!!! All of it even books that are not from the Mormon church...no worries...there should be nothing to hide EVER!!!! Look at the HISTORY...

5.0 out of 5 stars Don't tell you Mormon neighbor you have it!, March 19, 2010
This review is from: The God Makers: A Shocking Expose of What the Mormon Church Really Believes (Paperback)
The hatred of this book by the Mormons is well documented and known by those who are close to this subject. The video from this book was shown all over the US in many mainstream Christian churches giving them an inside look at the foundations of Mormonism. The Mormon church does not want you to know many of the things that have been exposed here and will do just about anything to mislead you. I recommend this book along with "Mormonism-Shadow or Reality" by Jerald and Sandra Tanner as a must read before joining the LDS church. The missionaries will not tell you all the facts, because they are ordered not too and because they don't know some of them. Don't allow yourself to be deceived or mislead, it is your right and duty to study and know what you are getting into. I was a member for 33yrs and besides the day my daughter was born, leaving the LDS church was the happiest day of my life. I couldn't have been set free without the knowledge contained in these books. There is a reason there is so much hatred for them, they speak the truth.

As someone who has lived in the Mormon Mecca of Salt Lake City and has had more than a cursory interest in LDS religious practices, I can say that this book hits the nail right on the head. Latter-day Saints hate this book and automatically dismiss it out of hand. However, if you want to know how things really work in the Mormon corporate empire (which operates under the veil of religion), then read this book. It is an eye opener.

5.0 out of 5 stars Stunning. Mormonism vs The Truth, June 6, 2011
This review is from: The God Makers: A Shocking Expose of What the Mormon Church Really Believes (Paperback)
This book unmasked mormonism. Lets review some of the ideas presented in The god makers. First, while Christians believe that God is spirit,as we read in the bible and every sunday school teacher know, the mormon founder Joseph Smith taught, "God Himself was once as we are now, and is an exalted man, and sits enthroned in yonder heavens!" The second mormon phalse prophet Brigham Young teached that our god is Adam. Mormonism also holds to a plurality of Gods and those gods are polygamists and contends that "as man is God once was; as God is man may become." Additionally, the Latter-day Saints compromise the nature of the God-man, Jesus Christ. In Christianity, Jesus is the self-existent creator of all things, Gods first creation and the co-creator of Earth. In Mormonism, he is the spirit brother of Lucifer who was conceived in heaven by a celestial Mother, one of the multiples Adam wives, and came in flesh as the result of the Father having sex with the Virgin Mary. This is heressy. Mormons do not believe that the Bible is the infallible repository for redemptive revelation. In their view, the Book of Mormon is "the most correct of any book on earth, and the keystone of our religion." Two further revelations complete the Mormon quad, namely Doctrines and Covenants and The Pearl of Great Price. Doctrines and Covenants is a compilation of divine revelations that includes the doctrine of polygamy. Not until threatened by the federal government did Mormon president Wilford Woodruff receive a revelation relegating polygamy to the afterlife. The Pearl of Great Price is no less troubling. It was this extra-biblical revelation that was used by Mormonism to prevent African Americans from entering the priesthood and from being exalted to godhood.

This review is from: The God Makers: A Shocking Expose of What the Mormon Church Really Believes (Paperback)
I am surrounded by a lot of mormons in my Salt Lake City suburb and I always thought they were nice people and pretty normal. I still think they are nice people, but now I feel sorry for them. I had no idea how screwed up mormons really are. This book exposes the truth behind their ridiculous beliefs and practices. The LDS religion is a complete sham rewritten throughout history to hide the truth. It was founded by a man who would steel other mens wives and con money out of people. This book breaks it all down. I don't know how mormons could ever be happy. As told in the book they never feel worthy of themselves because they are constantly striving for perfection in the view of their church. These people are not christians but they insist they are. Christians only believe in one god! I used to think the temples around town were beautiful. This book describes the rituals that occur in the temples. Now I think the temples are scary after finding out what goes on inside.

Mormon reviewers of the book (which I doubt very much that they've read) call it "lies" and a "screed."

These "reviewer" statements are far from the truth. In fact, the authors deal with the topics in the book lovingly and factually. Spend 15 minutes with google and your Bible, and you'll see that the material in the book is absolutely truthful and cannot be debated. It is simple to contrast the documented words of LDS church leaders with the words of the Bible, and you'll find, as I did, that the LDS church is hoist by its own petard. Their very words convict them.

The level of heresy committed by the LDS church, as documented in the book, is utterly breathtaking. I could hardly put it down, and am still, at this very moment, flabbergasted that seemingly normal, decent people could believe and fall for the doctrine of the LDS church. It most definitely makes me rethink my opinions of individuals such as Glenn Beck and Mitt Romney.

The book is a page-turner and makes for a good Kindle read. Practically from the first page, the shocking, anti-Biblical beliefs of the Mormon church are exposed. As well they should be. The LDS statements in this book are the most egregious form of false prophecy, heresy and occultism that I have ever personally read, even more egregious than the published statements of the Watchtower Society. For that matter, even more egregious than the statements of the church of Satan, because the church of Satan never claimed to be Christian.

2.0 out of 5 stars Every issue has two sides., June 9, 1999

This review is from: The God Makers: A Shocking Expose of What the Mormon Church Really Believes (Paperback)
As a Mormon who has read the book, I found it interesting but inflammatory. I have been a member my whole life but was amazed at the things in this work that were attributed to me and my faith. Many of the practices I had never heard of or were severely distorted.

Much of the argument boils down to ridicule and derision on par with, "the Catholic church is false because the Pope wears a funny hat" or "Buddhism must be false because their mantras sound like satanic moans". The fact is, most religion is a little strange when compared with our normal experience. Furthermore, poking fun at another's beliefs is tantamount to third grade taunting.

The book, however, is captivating and an interesting angle. I would just caution anyone who reads this to find out about the Mormons to remember that there are two sides to any story and one should seek a balanced view. Mormons, like anybody else, do not like to be made fun of and can be expected to be hostile to such attacks. But on the most part they are normal conservative Americans like anybody else.

Lastly, I would advise anybody to be skeptical of any author or organization (such as Saints Alive) that has as its central premise that another organization is wrong; they will then jump on anything that can be taken as negative to prove their point. In reality, a book like this can be (and probably has been) written about all religions, but this is not where I would go to further my education.

5.0 out of 5 stars This Is The Stuff They DONT Tell You., February 28, 2006
This review is from: The God Makers: A Shocking Expose of What the Mormon Church Really Believes (Paperback)
A definite page turner. We see these fresh-faced "missionaries" in our cities all over the country, knocking on doors, and offering to "study the scriptures". But theres a lot of stuff beneath the surface that they'd never tell you.

They DONT tell you about Joseph Smith's background in Freemasonry, Smith's crimnal past, or the secret rituals that take place in their temples, the PROVABLE falsehooods evident in the book of Mormon, the occult links to Mormonism, the fact that they teach the deity of man (we're all gods in the making, according to them), the documented false prophecies made throughout the movement's history, the links between Masonry and Mormonism, etc etc. The teachings on the godhood of man and man's connection to the planet Kolub are enough to make you just shake your head, both disgusted and sad at the same time.

The author is a former Mormon, so he has a perspective most of us will never have. For anyone serious about evangelism, this is a good one to read and keep on your bookshelf for future reference.

PS... dont pay any attention to Mormons who come on here trashing the book. They just do that to lower the overall rating of the book on Amazon to discourage you from buying it . Just pray for them, get your own copy , and see for yourself.
