I finished this book in two sittings. It was very difficult to put it down. This book was written by a man I know personally and see almost weekly. It took me a while to work up the courage to read his story. I know enough about WWII and the Holocaust to know it would be a difficult read. While I was reading I became aware that I was reading the story of millions of others who died at some point in their similar journey.

This book is nothing short of amazing. It is harrowing and horrific-yet hopeful and told with great honor. I feel privileged to have read this book. It is hard to believe humans could treat each other with such hatred. I am in total awe of the survivors' strength and this author's Faith journey. He told it with such honesty and bravery, and even humor at times. His story will stay with me forever. What will also stay with me is how little America did to save people during the Holocaust. I never knew America turned away a ship of almost 1000 souls. We must never forget....We must strive for the truth....
