5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome Book!, October 9, 2003
By
This review is from: God Meant It for Good (Paperback)
God's viewpoint differs from man's. He tells us that in Isaiah. We can be assured, however that "The Lord will perfect that which concerneth me" (Psalm 138:8). Dr. Kendall uses the incident of Joseph being sold into slavery, then promoted to ruler to illustrate the mysterious ways of God's "behind the scenes" work.
A discussion of dreams is given in the early part of the book. We're reminded that often other people are jealous of those who dream big. Faith is involved in God-given, God-sustained dreams. "The way God often tests our faith is to bring us to places where there is no known precedent" the author tells us (p. 39).
An encouraging poing is made about God's timing. We're told He is never too early or too late and that "God can accomplish a lot in a very short period of time" (p. 40).
The next point to consider is that trials have significance. They aren't random acts. No matter how senseless they seem, we are to maintain a healthy (positive) attitude during the period of testing.
God manifests Himself in the arena of the miraculous. "God wanted to show that what is utterly impossible with man is absolutely possible with God" (p. 56).
With Joseph as an example, Dr. Kendall writes, "God had a plan for Joseph that was greater than anything that could be seen at the time" (p. 62).
We're reminded "If God wants to put us in a particular place, He can do it..." (p. 71).
This book contains numerous truths that encourage, instruct, and edify. Buy it and read it slowly and prayerfully.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Excellent Book to Read, February 19, 2000

This review is from: God Meant It for Good: (Paperback)
This book is by far the best book I've ever read next to the Bible. It is especially good if you are going through a major trial in your life. It helps you understand the why's of what's happening to you as you go through your trial.

This is an excellent resource for individuals who are convinced God has called them to a place of significant ministry, but whose lives seem racked with troubles and obstacles to the realization of their vision.

Using the Old Testament historical Joseph as an example of his principle, R.T. Kendall lays out a critically important phase in the life of any person who has been or will be greatly used by God, and that is PREPARATION FOR MINISTRY THROUGH PURIFICATION.

How filled with hope this book is; how enlightening and applicable to one's own personal journey. It helps make sense of the mysterious and sometimes painful period between calling and fulfillment of a ministry.

Highly recommended for serious disciples of the Lord.

This is a great book for any one who has spent time in a "dungeon" of any kind. RT Kendall works through the life of Joseph from being hated and betrayed by his brothers to being exalted to the palaces of Egypt. There are tremendous life lessons to be learned from this book. Highly recommended!!

5.0 out of 5 stars out of the pits and into the pie, January 31, 2006

This review is from: God Meant It for Good: (Paperback)
A well-read friend pleaded with me to read this, said it was hands down one of the great books. I agree I have purchased copies to share with about five people so far. why? Because this author looks very carefully at what happens to Joseph in a simple and plain way, piece by piece. But, he is bringing forward the glory of the good news for every persons life. Good news? Yes. You will see with the writer that very bad things can be very very good when God is allowed to finish them.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful!, June 14, 2004
By
This review is from: God Meant It for Good (Paperback)
This book is simply that, wonderful! The insights and scriptural teachings are so valuable for all readers! Mr. Kendall has done a masterful job shedding the light on such a tremendous story. This book has changed the way I deal with several areas of my life. I have found in it, and in another book about the life of Joseph, "With Joseph in the University of Adversity" many spiritual insights which have helped me grow as a person and as a Christian.

I heard about this book on Jim Bakkers new program when the author was a guest. It sounded like good reading for someone going through a painful trial. I am doing a chapter a day and looking up the scripture references along with it. I find it very hard to put down. If you are experiencing hard times and your faith is being tested, read this book. You will be encouraged and see why the title is 'God Meant it for Good".

5.0 out of 5 stars Unusual insights with many practical applications, March 18, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: God Meant It for Good: (Paperback)
I purchased this book in 1996, but it wasn't until two years later that I picked it up and began to read. I found Kendall to have unusual insights into the life of Joseph - the kind of insights one has not heard from other examinations of this popular Biblical character. About 3/4 through the book I found myself embroiled in a real personal crisis. Kendall's book with it's many practical scriptural applications became especially meaningful at that time. I found Kendall's treatment of God's sovereignty to be particularly encouraging and strengthening. 'God meant it for good' was a book that spoke hope and comfort to my heart.

5.0 out of 5 stars "Serious study for the sincere Christian!", June 3, 2004
This review is from: God Meant It for Good: (Paperback)
Wow! This is a wonderful and spiritual book about the importance of forgiving others, and how such forgiveness actually affects US as much as the one forgiven.

Dr. Kendall is the expert on the story of Joseph, and there is no finer example of forgiveness than this story. He covers so many ramifications of forgiving that I never even considered.

This is not a book to sit down and just casually browse. It needs to be studied prayerfully, and applied to your life. It is Bible-based, conservative in theology, and gives you solid 'meat' without the psycholoi-babble many books of this type present!

I would strongly suggest the author's other book "God Meant it for Good", one of the two or three finest books on Joseph's life ever written along with "With Joseph in the University of Adversity" and one by Gene Getz.

Serious study for the sincere Christian!
