Book Description

1581129599 978-1581129595 June 27, 2007
Dubbed the "God particle" by Nobel Prize-winning physicist Leon Lederman, the Higgs boson is a hypothetical particle which, like divinity, is all pervading but undetectable. Scientists around the world race to find this clandestine particle. This book is about a different quest to find a different particle. This too is all-pervasive and totally clandestine. By revisiting the key experiments of the past, those that have shaped physics as we know it today, and re-assessing them in the light of a new theory based on a prime particle, we confirm the existence of the elusive God Particle. It's a particle belonging to an as yet undreamed of class of matter, many orders of magnitude smaller than anything we have even imagined. The theory based on this particle ultimately leads to an overarching but simple proposition that all of the phenomena of nature can be described in terms of one particle, one force and one law.

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't be fooled, January 13, 2009
This review is from: The God Particle: The Discovery and Modeling of the Ultimate Prime Particle (Paperback)
This book exploits Ledermans's book by using the same title. The logic by the author is silly and the conclusions belong in the realm of science fiction. An example of the misstatements is: permanent magnets never lose their magnetism. In the next sentence the author says if you heat a permanent magnet hot enough a permanent magnet loses its magnetism. The author gets one statement right. Since the author says he is not a scientist he doesn't have to worry about his reputation. True, he hasn't any reputation. A simple checker would have pointed out many obvious grammar errors. The author creates a whole new unbelievable science with zerons, zeesecs, and a cosma.

5.0 out of 5 stars Must read, May 24, 2010
This review is from: The God Particle: The Discovery and Modeling of the Ultimate Prime Particle (Paperback)
If you are searching for a grand unified theory that explains our universe from galaxies to quantum effects, this book is a must read. Don't underestimate Mr Jaeckel on his background alone. He is very wellinformed about all major experiements and observations relevant for the subject, such as Youngs double slit experiment and Michelson & Morleys experiment.

Ted Jaeckel describes a prime particle which mass requires 10^18 "zerons" to make up one electron. Unbelievable? More believable than parallel universes, 8 dimensional string theories if you ask me. Amongst other, the theory gives a fine explanation of why electrons aparrently do not exist in one particular spot, but rather appear "with some probability" in a certain area as described in Quantum Physics.

If/when the Higgs boson is observed, we will still be far away from a Grand Unified Theory, but creative thinking like Mr Jaeckel presents here might just be what is required to crack the nut.

Best Regards
Jesper Jørgensen

1.0 out of 5 stars Drivel, January 6, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The God Particle: The Discovery and Modeling of the Ultimate Prime Particle (Paperback)
I clearly was conned by the title of this book. I thought it might provide some up to date information on Lederman's 1993 book by the same title. The number of misstatements about the current state of the science of physics is a clear give away as to how little Mr. Jaeckel understands about this subject. Referring to the emission of light from atoms he dismisses quantum mechanics as a "muddying influence" of "conventional theory". I am under the impression the "standard theory" fully incorporates quantum mechanics. Worse, he describes gravity in Newtonian terms (force acting at a distance) and dismisses Einstein's warping of space as an "unproven theory".

The very premise of the book can have no value unless you are willing to concede Mr. Jaeckel, untrained in physics and without the resources of a university physics department just happens to be smarter than all of the physicists of the last two hundred years put together.

This book is true drivel.
